Interested. Especially if you could do it in black and have a provision for just the lock button. I don't need any other buttons on it.

If the FOB had all the capabilities (minus metal key) of the stock FOB with zero space waste, I think people would pay $25-50. A fob shell with no buttons, probably $5-10. Black would probably be the most requested.

I hope that you mean in addition to the cost of the key you're cannibalizing to do this, right? I admit this inspired me to fire up my 3d printer again.

also to warn anyone attempting this, according to the manual it says you can only have 4 keys programmed to a single car. so if you mess up one key you'll only have one more shot at it before you need to involve the dealer, i think. not sure what happens once 4 keys are programmed.

I meant the prices listed would be for the shell. The individual would have to come up with the battery and circuit board on their own.

5-10 bucks-black-no buttons and use the USPO and there one price ships all that fit in the package, think it starts at 5.49 or something, the other is to put it in a medium size padded envelope and have them weight it and price it,you can then figure out a flat rate that works.

I'd probably go with black no buttons also. I'd like to see a key ring hole though.

Ideally for me would be something like my key card at work. Its the same 2d measurements as a credit card, just a bit thicker. Well, considerably thicker, probably 3-4 times thicker, but still fits nicely in one of the inside pockets of my wallet. That would probably require a degree in electrical engineering though to reverse engineer the fob, keep only the parts we need, and figure out what to use for a battery. I see something like that costing $$$ though.

I'd be keen on one in black with no buttons.

If you ever get stuck and need the buttons, you can always take the case apart and press the buttons on the circuit board.

Keyhole would be cool.

If you can fit the 'spare' key in too that would be ace, but sort of defeats the point!

Last thought; since you're machining it anyway, you might be able to get a quick Mustang horse on the top :ford:
