Purolator PBL22500. It fits my truck too, so I bought a case of them, and the Ford Performance ones don't fit the MACH1

Why would they not fit the Mach1? Clearance issue?

I was in on a discussion of oil filters when an engineer I worked with chimed in. "Weigh a Motorcraft or a Wix, or Amsoil. Then go weigh a Fram or some store brand." He told me the case, the media, drain back valve, all the premium features and materials add weight as well as cost. I went right down to the store and bought a Motorcraft FL1A, and a Fram equivalent. (This was a long time ago.) The Fram was about a 10 or 15% lighter. It just felt cheap.

Always original equipment or if not available a WIX replacement.

I use K&N or Mobil 1 depending on which one is available. I don’t have a huge preference between the two because both seem to be top quality by most so called “experts.”

However, I am open to independent scientific test if anyone can present them here.

Engine Masters tested a bunch of oil filters. It was informative. In the end, if I recall, Wix won out.

If you have a Menards store in your area, the Purolator oil filters they carry are a great value. I always purchased the PL22550. Note that Purolator is owned by Bosch and these filters are made in USA.

More recently, I started stocking filters from Rockauto.com and I am buying the Wix HP57520XP filter. At $7.53 it is hard to beat that price.

I have watched more than a few filter tests on YouTube and the Bosch and Wix brands are usually highly regarded. The Motorcraft filters are fine but they are too expensive for what they are.

All they tested was oil pressure.

The Wix racing, specifically 'won' the test but the guys picked the K&N as their choice? Why?

Going by advertised filter quality, the Wix racing was a 60 micron, the regular Wix (3rd place) was 20 micron, and the K&N gold (second place) had 10 micron. So the Wix Racing filter possibly does the worst job at filtering (They didn't actually test filtering)

Why would they test filtering? After all it’s a filter.

Scratching my head.

Here is a test that covers flow rate and filtering capacity of 4 filters

I had been using the Royal Purple & the Purolator Boss filters. I started using the O'Reilly house brand: MicroGuard Select Extended Life filters. They're not as pricey as the RP or the Boss but they're just as good. Synthetic media, Silicone Anti-Drainback Valve, and supposedly good for 10K miles. I change my oil once per year and this plus full synthetic oil fills the bill.

I looked up wix filters when I was changing oil in my 2020GT. Don’t know if it was a misprint on the website, but the filter listed was a different number than what was on the car which was also a Wix filter. Went to the Wix website and looked up both numbers. One was a bit larger diameter but they both had the same thread and gasket size. The flow rates (Gal Per Minute ) were different with the larger diameter filter flowing more. Both fit a Ford Coyote engine. Maybe one was for a truck or an Expedition and was listed in the wrong place under Mustang, but it works just fine.

I usually run the Motorcraft FL500 and I grab it at WalMart. They always stock it and the price is right. They'll deliver it from the Walmart.com app same day.
