Hey everyone, I only post this due to when searching I only get oil threads...

I'm running a Ford Performance filter currently but I am curious if it is much different than a Motorcraft one. Or any other oil filter. What does everyone run?
I put this one on when I did a track day that ended up a basic bust due to weather...I am changing my oil now and looking for the best bang for the buck. I will be hitting the track again in May(whether or not I'll change oil again before I don't know). I only drive the car on weekends, I don't beat on her much but I do get spirited here and there...

What's the general consensus?

This is a thread which I commented on previously.

Out of the pool of possibles, I'd study tear-down videos, threads and company pages to select what you think is best for your use. While some brands are favored more than others, I don't think we've gravitated to any one specific filter.

Edit,

Another filter comment.

Stores have gotten good about stocking almost any brand and filter. I check for two things:

Take the filter out of the box:

- Confirm it is the right filter. My most recent purchase, I opened the package to find something completely different. The in-store person shook their head, then explained to me cheapskates will swap boxes. The $12 filter now becomes one costing less than half that.

- Feel for dents or anything unusual. Sometimes, filters get dropped. Those go back to the parts counter.

I personally use the Motorcraft filter, never any issues at all. If I was gonna use one from the store, I would get a Wix.

2nd this. After the 3rd time getting a fuel filter for my truck with chips our of it, I realized going in person to inspect the filter before paying anything was absolutely worth it.

I've never seen tests, but supposedly the Ford Racing filter flows a little more, filters a little less, and is stronger

Any brand's "premium" filter line should be good (even the brands I don't like). Filter bypass valve, anti drain back, etc are features of a premium filter, everyone's premium filter will have these things.

I honestly don't give oil filters a lot of thought. I buy the OEM whenever possible and a good name brand when I can't. Heck, I'll even buy a private label filter if I know who makes it and the internet makes that pretty easy to find out.
Having changed my own oil since around 1970 I've found that it's more important to chang the oil and filter regularly than to stress too much on the actual oil & filter used.

I use K&N or Mobil 1 depending on which one is available. I don’t have a huge preference between the two because both seem to be top quality by most so called “experts.”

However, I am open to independent scientific test if anyone can present them here.

Motorcraft.

I remember a long thread about the Ford Racing oil filters on BobIsTheOilGuy and really it came down to the Racing filter just held a little more oil, was a thicker housing to prevent puncture and had a bit less media in it.

Its made to take a punishment for a race session then thrown away after when you dump the oil to put your normal fill back in. Its not really intended to be used as your daily filter.

I always run Purolator Boss 22500, cause the local grocery store always has them and they are affordable. Sometimes I'll grab FL500 if they are on sale.
