Jack stand placement - feedback?

Yeah for sure I keep the jack in place and if a wheel is coming off it goes underneath the car too.

Jack is usually in the way so I i just put the car on the stands and get the jack out of there.

I did that on my 22 GT but my Mach 1 has the HP splitter so it sits a bit too low and the low profile Race Ramps are not in my budget

I use the harbor freight ramps but my EcoBoost does not have the added splitter like your Mach 1 so it just barely clears the ramp when pulling up on it.

I am a retired auto tech and have worked on cars/trucks on jack stands of varying quality including homemade ones for 50 years with never an issue so long as the stands are placed correctly under the vehicle and always give the vehicle a good rocking to insure it is stable before crawling under it. I liked the old cars where we could use an old rear axle air jack on the read end and an air bumper jack up front so you pretty much had full access to the entire underside of the vehicle. The rear axle jack you could just about lift the rear end up till the front bumper hit the ground.

This. The stability of it it's the same as a two post lift. The only drawback is the limited lift space available but unless you own a shop you can do very invasive work even with a QJ. Just compromise somewhat on comfort.

For me, every jack stand gives me the chills.

Can you not turn the jack stands 180 degrees and have the ends on the jacking rail and the cradle under, so it sits level on the jack stand.

move that stand inward about 1/4 inch to get it off the pinch weld area. then it s fine as long as its balanced correctly which was said (use the lift point areas as a reference ). That s how I do it.

Just wanted thoughts on the jack stands not sitting flat on the rails and whether that was user error, something to ignore as long as the car is stable, etc. If you look at the pics my placement still put some stands using mostly the pinch weld instead of the rails, defeating the purpose of the rails.

Thanks to all that have replied. I think if I'm putting all 4 wheels in the air I'll use the rails again with better placement attempts, for oil changes may just use the k-member up front

I've had this happen and the solution is very simple, you have two sets of stands they're supposed to be identical but they likely are not.

Put the same color at the front of the car and the same color at the rear. So you have green on one side and black on the other, try green on the front and black on the rear.

Your garage floor isn't level, which is the root of the issue, if it still doesn't sit right after moving the stands around try the other side of your garage.

That is a . . . Very good point. I hadn't considered that re: the two sets. I will incorporate that advice next time.

If the floor isn't level, I'll have to take that up with the mega-corp running my rental complex

To feel more comfortable under there I made a cribbing block from a few layers of cut up surplus 4x12" lumber glued and screwed together. Then I slide it in under the largest crossmember adjacent to where I'm working.

Try using 2 x 4 blocks to enter onto car ramps.

How that happened?

I didn't see the car fall but we were across the street playing basketball when the guy came over yelling asking to help get the car off his friend. I was under 10 years old so it was back when cars weighed 19 tons.

I have the same four 3 ton daytona jack stands but I still always place my 1.5 ton pittsburg jack and 3 ton daytona jack with tension under the rails. Can't be too safe
