I personally wouldn’t run that tire on track. That’s a pretty good slice and if it’s as deep as you think it might be, it wouldn’t take much for that tire to let go. Would not end well for you and the car if that tire goes at high speed. If you have tire certs from Discount Tire/Tire Rack, that tire will be covered.
Thanks. Unfortunately these were installed by the dealer as a condition of sale before I bought it

with no mark on the inside I might use it. Maybe check with an expert on tires?

I figured everyone here was an expert. 🤣

I asked the tire monkeys at discount, and they just said if you can see threads, it wasn't good.

Here is a close up picture. Looks like it made it just to the top of the thread layer.

Putzing around on the street you’d probably be ok. I would err on the side of caution for the track though.

Looking at that close-up; I wouldn't chance it on track. Heck, since it is showing white cords, knowing me, I wouldn't be comfortable driving it on the street either.

Agree. Too easy to get punctured now, if nothing else.

I have to wonder if it happened a few months ago when I had to take it to two different shops to get it properly aligned. Like going up and down ramps or something...🤔

Hello; The cut ends of a section of the chords can be seen in the photo. Much depends on how many layers of chord exist in the tire carcass. A tire expert might know. I do not.

That it is a rear tire makes running it less of a risk but does not take away all risk. For city driving and 55 highway driving maybe not as much risk. Interstate and higher speeds equal more risk both for loss of control and body damage if it comes apart. (Blowout)

In the old days I would use this as a spare in the trunk. Truth, is I have ridden on tires that looked worse than the one shown. Sometimes due to economics. Sometimes in someone else's car.

As far as how it got cut there are lots of sharp crap on the roads. Good luck.

Tires look otherwise great. Both have 9/32s of tread with even wear.

I just want to know if that one is safe to track with the slice in it.
my bad, from the original pic you posted, the middle of the tire looked toast.

The answer to your question lies here:

You have clearly cut the threads in the compound. Depending on the tyre construction, number of layers, etc. this may (or not) be a serious harm.
I am not saying it is (as I have no idea how the PS4Ss are made), but if it was, I would expect that the failure will happen at an operation at some limit - extreme tyre pressure, speed, bump etc. It would not fail while cruising around a town.
I would not want it to fail like this.
Your call.

I might just run that tire because I'm really cheap and sometimes I do stupid stuff. But I could not encourage someone else to do it. Unless your driving is slow enough that there's no way a sudden loss of pressure would cause any kind of control issue.

Edit: I know the temptation is strong because tires cost a fortune right now. But the tire could save you from trashing the car or injuring yourself/someone else.

It's fine. I wouldn't track it, but normal street use it's fine.

That said, I instructed a driver who cut his similar, but on the shoulder. He ran the course no issues. Even after I'd said I personally wouldn't drive it with the cut.
