I just went through this exercise on my 350 , started with the clips because the cigarette lighter doesn't work like my buddy's Porsche does ...

I ended up getting the OBD connector and it seems to be able to float the battery fine via this method (I have a Noco g3500).

I don't know why I waited this long but it is very nice to not have to jump start it every time.

Bumping this up for the people that may be looking at these for the winter.

I recently got the Ctek 3300 off Amazon and got it hooked up.

Definitely happy with the performance of the unit as well, so we’ll see how it holds up over time!

Been using the CTEK wired as above for 5 winters now. Still working like a charm.

This is how I have mine too. The only thing that bothers me about this set up, is if someone trips over the cord and bends the fender outward there at the headlight. that piece is weak...

Depending on how much slack, you could feed it ip through the hood and down the side....

I have a low traffic garage, essentially just me when it’s plugged in.

I had it the same way on my 16 and 17 with brand Battery Tender. But you can buy an extended cord that is longer from them on there website that might reach through the hood and then down the side.

I’m fairly low traffic too but have a rambunctious 7 yea old that loves the car hehe.

it’s been a while but I saw someone here actually put a more permanent plug into the cowl for easy access/unplug without raising the hood. Didn’t look bad and was super utilitarian. Can’t remember who it was tho.

I just used the 2 loop connectors (instead of the alligator clips). Hooked them to the positive and negative on top of the battery (underneath the battery cover) and leave it there. Zip tied the female plug to the shock tower. Plug the tender in when needed. When not in use cover the connection. You don't even notice it's there.

What are the pros and cons of directly hooking it up to the battery vs. the fusebox and ground point?
