I expect exhaust sound when I'm on the pedal. But this constant drone at 2k is killing me.

I'm planning on tearing it down tonight and redoing all connections again.
Do you still have the sound tube installed on the intake? Maybe try taking that out as well.

My borla touring before i replace the resonator was almost as quiet as stock, maybe a tad louder. It did have a little deeper tone on 6th gear cruise around 70 mph but nothing that i can consider as drone!

Also exhaust needs to break in and will change
All I did was change mufflers and mine had a drone. I took the edge off with Dynamat at key spots in the trunk. It was still a bit loud. One day I realized that it was perfect. Either the mufflers quieted down some or I am just used to it. I left the Dynamat, less road noise from the rear. I could take a road trip in this car, no problem.

So to update, I took another forum member for a drive and he confirmed that he also heard a drone around 2k.

That night I went through the entire system, checked all alignment, clamps etc. I then adjusted the hangers to make sure the system was free floating. Then I adjusted the tips back to the rear as far as I could get them to make sure they cleared the valence. And the sound tube was always removed.

Been driving it for two days since then. Still drone around 2k rpm.

That being said, I contacted Borla Customer Service per Lisa@Borla. Spoke with Chris who wanted sound clips. Spent today getting videos of the sound and the tach to show the rpms. Very difficult to capture the resonance on an iphone. But I sent him what I could capture. Once I hear back from Borla, I will update...

I had the borla touring for a year, no drone. not loud at all, i eventually replace the mid resonator with a h pipe.

i did have to message the pipes to make sure the connections overlap between the resonator and the mid pipe going to the mufflers, there was a bit of messaging with a foot to get the pipes to fit right with the overlap. and the clamps take a bit of torque to get tight, and re torque them.

either that or, you dont like louder exhaust systems. most of the other systems out there are louder, have a more rasp, or lots of Drone.

anyway, good luck man, im on my 3rd exhaust system

How many of you who report no drone are driving Automatics? That could be the issue. My Kooks catback drones also. But it does it when in normal mode and on city streets. When I switch to Sport+ mode the drone is gone because the transmission is not up shifting to 5th and 6th at 35 to 40 mph. The Drone occurs when the engine is lugging in 5th or 6th at 1200 to 1700rpm

My car is an automatic with 3.15's and the Borla Touring had a mild drone at 2000 rpm in 6th. I had the Borla Touring for a year and only changed it because I wanted something louder.

I wish I still lived in Texas so I could hear yours in person and see how similar it sounded to mine. It will be interesting to hear what Brola says.

I sent a clip to Borla, and even though you can't really hear much, he agreed that there was something there. So Borla is going to send a replacement system.

Hopefully it's a flaw in the system and the new one fixes the drone.

Did you get the replacement from Borla and install it? Does the new on also have the drone?

I'm also curious if the new one solved the issue. This system was on my short list of exhausts, but after reading your post I'm a little hesitant.

Any new news from those that are experiencing drone with their Borla or FRPP Touring systems?

Borla sent me another touring catback. I installed it and the drone was still there. It was slightly less noticeable but still there. I could always tell when the car was at 2k.

I decided to install the stock resonator and stock axle pipe and keep the Borla mufflers essentially installing it as an axle back. The drone was reduced further.

The issue with the Borla system is slight drone and a constant resonating above 2k rpm. So any highway cruising, the system always has a low resonating presence.

Not sure I would call it drone at this point with mufflers only, but the best way to describe it is, the sound is always there. Always resonating above 2k. It makes the system unpleasant for cruising.

The tone is good. Deep and real, but for those that don't want to hear their exhaust note at all times, this system will wear you out.

That being said, I have to say Borla has the absolute best customer service of any aftermarket company I've every dealt with. The system wasn't for me, and they stepped up and took care of everything. Absolutely nothing bad to say about the Borla staff.
