Well, got my car back today and all I can say is WOW. Borla Touring with stock cat back sounds good but pretty quiet. Not much louder than stock but more V8ish if you know what I mean.

Borla touring with Kooks long tube headers/"green" cats sounds unbelievable! Absolute zero drone at any speed. As a matter of fact with the windows up and AC on while I was on the highway I was like wow, this is quiet, very quiet and I was beginning to think the headers didn't wake it up enough. I drove the whole 25 minute ride on the highway without the stereo on and tried multiple speeds and gears and RPM's and it was quite with zero drone.

When I got off the highway I shut off the AC and opened the windows and that's when the smile hit me. The car just sounds freaking awesome. Exactly what I was looking for.

Mind you I also had a McLeod clutch installed so I can not mash the go pedal for 500-1,000 miles to let the clutch break in but it sounds great! The best description I can give is it sounds like the S Types when under acceleration with more bass but mild and timid when putting around.

If anybody is concerned with drone or extremely loud exhaust with using long tube headers I would say with complete certainty that this setup is for you.

I am so happy how this turned out. Sounds aggressive and American V8 ish when you want and drone free highway enjoyment when you want. Absolutely perfect.

I am sure it will break in more and gain a few db's but nothing to make or break anything.

gsxr1300 and I plan on using his go pro and trying to capture what I'm saying in a video for you all but please give us some time. My schedule is a complete disaster for the next solid week so it's going to have to be after that.

How does it sound at high RPM's? I just added kooks headers to my FRPP touring and it seems a bit raspy over 3000.

This is hard to answer being so subjective and all. What sounds raspy to one may not to another but to me is not raspy.

But........ I'm breaking in my new clutch and am not accelerating hard for the next 962 miles to be exact lol

FYI I have the FRPP Touring and trying to compare with the OP just so there's no mix-ups.

Just re-read everything and I guess it's that x-pipe I have that would be causing the rasp which was minimal before but the kooks headers just amplified everything good and bad.

The x-pipe on the FRPP is a type of "resonator delete" that people refer to right?

yes the X-pipe is in place of the resonator.

Yes, most people are confused by this but FFRP touring uses X pipe and Borla Touring uses a mid muffler with an internal H so it's quieter and deeper than FFRP Touring

Here is a picture of my mid muffler from Borla Touring

So if I want a deeper tone in any system I should make sure it still has some type of mid-muffler/resonator?

This is the only kit I know of that has a mid muff. All other kits have x or h pipes.

There might be the option of continue using the Ford OEM resonator (mid-muffler) which is close to the same thing as the Borla Touring Mid-Muffler.

But as far as the Borla Touring kit I would guess the Borla Mid-Muffler would be a better match for the Borla S Type axle backs since these parts work together in their sound design scheme.

Right now I have stock exhaust with Ford OEM Resonator in place and Borla S Axle backs and I think the sound is a little more raspy, not as deep as the Touring package with the Borla Mid muffler. (at least from what I have heard in videos)

I imagine the Borla mid muffler is a lot lighter than the OEM resonator. Borla mufflers are light as hell and OEM mufflers feel like they are made out of iron and concrete.

Indeed. What surprises me is that Ford is trying so hard to loose the weight on the GT350 but didn't pay attention to the GT. GT350 comes with an x pipe straight from the factory, while the GT has this heavy resonator in place. If I m not mistaken, the s197 GT's didn't have a resonator.
