I have the FRPP Touring Catback and was experiencing drone between 2000 - 2500 RPMs. Borla sent a replacement system which was installed this week. Now the drone is between 2000 - 3000 RPM and is at least 25% louder! I don't know if the drone will diminish after some number of miles are driven - but it's virtually intolerable - thinking about having the old FRPP Touring Catback system reinstalled. It's just not enjoyable driving the car with this drone. Has anyone else received one of these replacement systems.

I have the Borla touring and it doesn't drone so something is wrong.

That's interesting. I am really surprised to hear that you think it's loud. I mean you can definitely hear it inside the cabin but in my opinion it sounds perfect. It's got that deep classic musscle car sound to it. I have take the car on road trips with the wife and neither of us got annoyed by it. What set up are you running right now?
Yes, if there's drone with any of our systems, something is wrong. Our systems do not drone. Please contact me at [email protected] so I can assist.

What other modifications have you made to your S550 Mustang?

Do you have long tube headers?

The Borla Exhaust systems for the S550 Mustang don't drone so if you're experiencing drone with our systems something is wrong.

Please contact me at [email protected] and I will make sure this is resolved to your satisfaction.

And Borlas are not one of them. He had a bad experience with his and it did not meet his expectations of what he wanted, particularly for interior sound levels overall, but that doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of others happy with it.
Appreciate this. There are actually many more than hundreds of others who are happy with our systems for the S550. The actual number is in the tens of thousands.

Keep in mind we supply Ford Racing and Shelby also.

The number of drone complaints for any system we offer for the S550 is far less than 1%.

MrFarms - so there's no low pitched hum in the 2000 - 2500 RPM range? That's what I have experienced/am experiencing with the two FRPP Touring Catback systems.

Hi JohnK - If there is a hum it isn't something that I or anyone has noticed. If I'm on the highway just cruising at 70mph its whisper quiet. at 2500 rpms you will definitely hear it (in a good way) but im never just cruising at that range since i have a 3.15 auto.

Simply put - i haven't heard any noise that I felt was out of place or was worthy of calling drone.

MrFarms - thanks for the feedback. I am puzzled why I am hearing this low pitched hum. I am having conversations with David Borla to try to figure out what is going on. I have a 6 speed manual with 3.73 rear end gears - but it's hard to imagine that would make a difference in the exhaust sound. Thanks again! - JohnK

Do you hear it from behind you vs. surrounding you?

It sounds like it is around me - and seems to be everywhere in the cabin with in the 2000 - 2500 RPM range.

Hmm. It shouldn't do that. I've had drone on this car with a different exhaust, along with a boomy cabin that it made for even after the classical drone subsided. I've also driven an S550 with the S-type catback, which while different, is still made by Borla and will have to have the same standards for no drone. I'd suggest you compare notes with another car with different exhaust and see the difference, Cascadia_302

Yes I agree, although my prior experience with Borla was not on an S550.
I can say with my Corsa Touring 90% of its sound is heard outside the vehicles cabin which I enjoy even more with the windows down now that we some much needed sunny/warm weather here in the PNW.

I can confirm i have a drone issue around 1700 - 2000 rpm with my borla s type axle back.

To me it sounds like the tone of the engine - i.e. i can hear that tone through the entire RPM range, however, it's obviously hitting its resonant frequency around the 2k RPM range.

Under load its even more painful - the missus had to ask me to drop a gear when we were going up a long hill yesterday which confirmed it for me really that I wasn't just imagining it.

curious how OP is feeling about the new system? Corsa touring?
