Hey Keyboard Warriors................

This thread is about observed jackassery on the part of Tesla drivers on the road. I'm sure there are plenty of other threads to debate the EV thing.
I think some of it ties together though. A good chunk of the EV buyers are those that want the latest and greatest toy and some (not all) have an “I’m better than you” attitude because they have the shiny new thing. Can be said for some ICE cars as well but I see that attitude a lot here, in particular with the Tesla folks. And they feel like they need to show their “dominance” by getting us in performance ICE vehicles to race them. I just refuse to take the bait for a variety of reasons. Congrats guy (or gal), you bought a $100k toaster on wheels that also requires a not minor investment in your home infrastructure to charge that toaster. No thanks.

Agreed. Unfortunately every time an EV gets brought up on a car forum it devolves into this. Some people just can't help but be triggered.

Getting back to your orginal post...most Tesla drivers I encounter are idiots because they drive super slow and cut you off.

But I do think in places like Chicago and other cold weather areas, you’ll see sales start to level off. There were major charging issues this past winter when we had a stretch of near and sub zero weather. People don’t forget that their cars left them stranded in the cold because they won’t charge or there weren’t enough charging stations.
Also, teslas have a battery temp monitoring circuit that will not allow you to charge the battery if it is too cold or too hot. During the cold spell you mentioned, we had a few teslas here in Cleveland that ran into that exact issue.

So let me get this straight. Because he makes a thoughtful point about EVs, he now needs to prove to you why he likes mustangs? Are you that narrow minded?
I disagree with your characterization of his post. I want to know his thoughts about his Mustang because the cognitive dissonance interests me.

I'm very open minded, actually.

So my family has a bunch of these things. Model 3 performance, model 3, model s 90. My car shits on all of them but the 3 performance from a dig-100.

the 3 performance is fast as shit up to 100. Probably does 0-100 in 6 seconds. Then it falls on its face hard. From a 60 roll I shit on that thing too. Gotta give it its props below 60 though as it rips off the line harder than my buddies old 430whp gutted twin turbo srt neon did.

now would I ever own one of them? Hell no. Boring ass cars and ride like garbage. I get carsick driving them.
They aren’t that fast. More like 5+ seconds to go from 60-100 mph and trap ~115 mph in the 1/They are quick off the line though, due to AWD and instant torque.

The only thing keeping the roads from being flooded with EVs right now is high tariffs on the Chinese BD. The BD sells for $10,700 USD in China and $25k in South America. If BD’s were exported to the States in large numbers, there are plenty of people who would absolutely buy one if they were sub $25k. What else can you buy new for $25k? Mitsubishi Mirage and a base model Corolla are all I can think of.
The BYDs sold in China are heavily subsidized by the Chinese government. They wouldn’t be that cheap otherwise.

The problem is that it's hard to tell what you're even dealing with since they all look the same, lol.
Yeah, they're ugly as heck, especially the Cybertruck.

I was on a road with three lanes in each direction. I was in the far-right lane at a light, and a Tesla pulls up next to me in the center lane, my windows were down because the exhaust is out there. I look over and his window was up, and the tint was fairly dark.
We were both the first in line at the light. The light turned green, and he took off quickly. Not wanting to waste fuel, I puttered off the line in no hurry.
I rolled up next to him at the next red light. I looked over, and he lowered his window and said: "I'm surprised you didn't give it a go back there?"
I replied, "Buddy, I could tell by the sound of your after-market exhaust, that thing has been heavily modified."
He replies, "F__k-you man", and rolls up his window.
This guy had NO sense of humor..... I thought it was quite a funny comment.... he didn't.
A friend of mine has a Model X and he told me he was next to a Challenger at a light. He floored it and took off and left the Challenger behind despite the guy supposedly taking off too (and his wife was super pissed at him for doing that). I asked him what the Challenger had because most of the ones I see around my area are all V6 or whatever, not the Hemis. He couldn't tell me so it may have not been a fair match. I've had Challengers try to zoom by me (non-Hemis) but I left them behind... my wife was pissed at me too...

I don't know about you, but my experience with Chinese-made auto parts shows them to be dismal. I'll NEVER put another Chinese part in any of my cars; from wheel bearings that collapse after driving 25 feet to COP modules that fail from the get-go their "quality" is crap. They're kind of like long, long ago when "Made in Japan" meant "junk". Now, it's a different story so maybe in time they'll get there but for now, not for me. I trust made in Mexico more and that's saying a lot.

Lots of fair points here. And for the record, I’m not anti-EV. I actually like the Mach E :bandit: and a few others. I don’t care for Tesla at all. They’re ugly (my opinion) and poorly built. If you think Ford panel gaps and paint are bad, Tesla makes them look like Mercedes.

I think the cramming of EV down everyone’s throat is a large part of their sales, especially those that actually believe they’re saving the planet by buying one (and there are a lot of those folks out there). Some buyers are also those that want the shiniest, newest thing on the market and EV also fits that bill, particularly the higher end vehicles. So yes, there’s a good segment of the market for EV and it is growing. They will go back to what’s more reliable.

Being fully aware that my tax dollars are never spent as originally intended, I’d much rather they be put to better use than subsidizing someone else’s purchase of said EV via tax credits not to mention all the subsidies that the automakers are getting for building said EV’s (be it in the form of actual cash, tax credits, tax abatements for new plants, etc). And I’m not naive to the fact that a lot of different companies in a lot of different industries receive various forms of subsidy as well. And I don’t much care for it, they either make it or they don’t. If a company is deemed too big to fail, that company is too big to begin with (but that’s a whole different bag of apples).

I’m also not a fan at all of these local governments implementing plans (or even laws) to ban the sale of new ICE vehicles by a certain date. CA has done it, I believe OR and WA have and I know where I live in IL it is currently on the docket (we in fact have a proposed bill to adopt all of the CA EPA regulations including the banning of the sale of new ICE vehicles by 2035). These governments may be surprised what the consumer actually chooses if you give them the choice and not force them in one direction. As we see in forums like this, there’s a lot of pushback and I suspect a lot of it is because of the forceful nature in which EV’s are being pushed.

Just some of my rambling thoughts on a Friday afternoon.
Agreed. The ones here who think they're saving the planet haven't figured out the logic of how a country of perhaps 350 million can save the planet when there are 2 other countries (China and India) that pollutes more than our country does and continue to do so as they build more and more coal-fired power plants to meet their power demands.

He probably drives a Mustang because it looks so, so much better. I regularly have people commenting how beautiful my car looks and it's just a plain old base GT, not a Shelby or DH or anything. I've not heard people say much about the styling, color, looks etc. of a Tesla, any Tesla.

Oh I’m not saying the BD is a quality vehicle. I’m just saying that the only thing stopping them from flooding the roads is tariffs. In this economy, there are many people who’d give their right leg to have a super cheap car no matter where it came from.

On topic, I don't have stories of EV drivers doing dumb stuff. I think most of them are at least moderately wealthy compared to other people around here, so they tend to be careful in traffic in this part of the country. Every once in a while I see rapid acceleration, but that's about it.

I think the Model S is good looking and the Mach E isn't bad, but yes I agree some models and years of Mustang are really beautiful. When I drive the Mustang I really enjoy looking at it - and I don't get that at all from the Camaro. It's great to drive, but the looks are meh.

The hate for teslas is crazy. Everytime I see someone on here hating teslas or electric vehicles because they are electric I shake my head.

I don't like tons of cars that others do and I don't go posting about it and trash talking them every chance I get. I think teslas are better cars than a majority of what people are driving.

Most teslas are pretty fast and the plaid is faster than any stock production ford car in a straight line. If you don't like that they don't have a motor and don't make noise fine, but the people who hate on these cars for no reason is crazy.

Ive daily driven a model 3 performance and a base model y for work. There are things that annoy me about the cars but the model 3 performance is fun af and the instant power you get flooring it is really fun.
