Irresponsible to go out for a completely safe drive? That activity has zero chance of contributing to covid spread. I go out for a drive every other day. I also can't imagine how the US could possibly enforce such an order, short of declaring Martial law and having soldiers everywhere.
Which is what they did in Italy and Spain. Police plus Civil Guard plus Army.

Driving when not necessary will involve all the day to day policing (assuming everybody does it) that is best utilised elsewhere. Cars will crash and require emergency services, cars will breakdown etc etc. Yes your journey alone will have no impact, but if everybody does it then there is no lockdown.

Right. For instance, the people of the UK voted to get out of the EU, but their politicians didn't want to do it and kept fighting about it for a long time. I'm curious about what someone from the UK thinks about it, but I don't feel that I know enough to start insulting specific politicians from the UK.
I'm laughing at Trumps presentation skills and ludicrous flip flopping about - not serious political opinions

Brexit was a mess, whether pro or anti, and not helped by a vote that was really close meaning about half the people wanted to leave and half stay. It wasn't until the Conservatives won a health majority that any progress was made because prior to that there was no majority in parliament. We had a minority Government which can never get anything done.

So our freedoms should be taken due to the slight chance of something going wrong? I just don't agree with this. If that is the standard for removing freedom (there's a slight chance of something going wrong), we will all end up losing a lot of civil liberties.

Huh, I'm not going to go back through your old posts but I had the impression a lot of what you said was about policies rather than poor speaking. Anyway, we can both agree that Trump isn't as polished as a typical political type. I prefer Trump over the vast majority of political people when it comes to actions.

I sometimes wish the US government had a system where they accomplished less. Often I feel as though a lot of things they do just hurt the American people.

Difference between citizens and subjects. recently here in Michigan.

LMAO! These 'citizens' are getting dominated so hard by propaganda and they don't even know it. I already wrote and did most of this research over the weekend, but here we go.

Welcome to astroturfing! Notice how these groups literally popped up overnight? Building support for reopening the country so Trump can claim people want it, nothing suspicious when all these groups and protests appear overnight and are identical. These are the kinds of people are more receptive to astroturfing and wouldn't be inclined to look any deeper into what they were joining, much like some people on these forums.

But, hey those are Buzzfeed news articles! We can't believe those they're leftist propaganda!

Why do these groups have the exact same description? Let's not stop there. Following their own links, one is from the 'PA Firearms association' and the other is from the group 'MN gun rights' both with the exact same layout. Both of their domains are registered with the same registrar and were registered on the exact same day at the same time.

If you reverse lookup or whois you can fact check me. Some of their information is obscured by proxy so I can't tell you 'who' owns these domains. But that doesn't really matter, who or whoever is responsible for this astroturfing couldn't make this more obvious if they tried to anyone that understands how the internet works. This honestly took me longer to type all of this up than it did for me to find this over the weekend. Yet people have taken the bait hook line and sinker.

Meanwhile, Trump starts tweeting liberate MN, VA, MI and one of the major forces behind the group in MI was a political group that he has direct ties to and has historically been heavily funded by the family of the Sec of Education Betsy Devos.

I'm not alleging some major conspiracy here, but holy shit guys come on.

Edit: I'm fairly certain the Russians did this in Texas not too long ago too with Texit or Texas at heart or something like that. This stuff has been going on for so long that it isn't hard to spot at all anymore. But it is so easy to get the ignorant all riled up over some 'muh American freedoms' bullshit.

Haha poor speaking? He must love good ol' Uncle Joe - I wonder when he's going to come out from cowering in his basement?

Loss of civil liberties and freedom for the greater good of the community you live in is EXACTLY what this is all about. Some of us are prepared to do just that (and we are doing here) to give our fellow citizens a better chance. With freedom comes responsibility.

They would be the people that Trump said were all 6 feet apart would they? Looks like an armed mob to me rather than a freedom protest. Why does anybody need an automatic rifle at a protest about lockdown, other than for intimidation.

Trump has encouraged this and encouraged bully boys onto the streets.
Let's see the Italian gestapo kick the legs out from one of these guys, easy to do when the populace are disarmed sheep. They are semi-automatic carbines not automatic rifles.

What happened to your support for letting the infection run free and developing herd immunity?

See the yellow flag in the background? Don't Tread on Me. Some of your ancestors probably saw that flag too, that's how fresh the American Revolution is to Americans and why your snooty comments about our President are so offensive.

You know only too well I never said that. Herd immunity is the ONLY way life can return to normal, by natural or artificial means. I posted extensively about immunity and how it is achieved, I'm not going to repeat it all again.

That's how wars start when armed mobs rule the street. Not my idea of freedom. No need for guns here - we can protest without having to threaten and intimidate.

I think you mean you are willing to accept lack of freedom - and not only accept it but also feel nice and happy locked up in your house unable to leave. I agree with reasonable steps to slow the spread, but not destroying the world economy and many, many lives in order to prevent 0.03% of deaths. And this has to end soon. Very soon. To be clear, it's the principle - not that I personally can't handle it. There are many, many people unemployed and suffering right now. Those people have to be a high priority.

Not the same here as we have a Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme that pays employee wages to be furloughed so for individuals it isn't so bad. Yes there is a cost involved, but there is a cost involved in doing nothing as well.

Agree restrictions will need lifting to allow economic recovery, but there will be no return to the old ways and restrictions ongoing for some time (if less severe) Lifting restrictions too soon will just start another peak a few weeks later. Even New York is likely to be only around 10% to 15% immune population currently, according to US epidemiologists, so lots of naĂŻve people available to act as a host and allow further spread. This is something we are going to have to manage and live with for years until we can manage immunity with a vaccine - and don't forget the whole world wants that vaccine so availability is going to be a problem.

And yes, most people here are willing to accept that temporary lack of freedom and also the lesser restrictions that will follow. Not happy as such but doing what is required of us for the common good. But those lesser restrictions will probably be relying on the general public to act responsibly with social distancing etc etc. If they don't then enforced measures will return. One of our politicians said recently - If your life feels normal at the moment than there is something wrong and you are not acting responsibly. (I suppose unless you are a hermit ?)
