After seeing the prices for center hood vents.. 2 of my track friends, 2 Mustangs and a C5 Vette, decided to design our own vent then have them Laser Cut .. half the price, and slightly larger than others available.
You have to fold the fins, epoxy the ribs and paint.. but those who like to save a bit and have time to spare - this works..
Either Rivet or Panel bond when painted.. but happy so far.

I was waiting for this…

So much for a bunch of engineers showing a bit of initiative, trying to save a few bucks making savings for themselves, without a mark-up and S&H from after market sellers who have their own overheads to consider.

I could probably buy a Chinese vent from Temu for half the cost too.
Oh and it’s a track car, so why would I need to tig-weld and powder coat.

I was just asking because for someone to buy a 2x2 sheet of aluminum and find someone to cut approx. 266" it would be about $200. With set-up fees and mins, it could run more. If you have access to your own machine and have access to bulk .080" sheet, great. I was just asking how you were able to install them at such a low cost. Good Luck with them.

OK! We made a few revisions of the vent, angles and supporting ribs, to suit both cars Mustang and Vette.
Used https://sendcutsend.com/services/laser-cutting/
Ordered x3 for even more savings.
Twist by hand then 2 part Epoxy for securing the 2 supports in a few places.
First one finished, rattle can primer and paint.. was OK for track
No need for Template - just measure and center, full size plot taped down.
Vette is panel bonded from underside, I’ve ordered 100 rivets for $5 amazon.

more to follow.

SendCutSend is a great company. Fast and great customer service. They are limited in some areas but are getting more capabilities as time goes on.

Nice...just to note, for optimal cooling and benefits, I believe the front blade should be up almost 90 degrees. Trackspec sells an addon for their vents and Race Louvers does it on theirs. There is performance benefit. Not a requirement but just something to think about maybe in the next revision.

We have designed a front Wicker to be 3D printed.. after install I will make an air test to look at flow.. Then decide what to do..!
From other videos, the side vents seem to expel air faster and with more force, but that could be the air evacuation and volume with smaller vents which cause that.
If I can stop the hood flutter, escape air - supporting cooling, then I'll be happy.

It's hard to tell, but it almost looks like the center vent is a bit far back, that further forward is where the lowest pressure above the hood is (On the Mustang, no opinion on the C5). AJ and Race Louvers posted some good data on the low and high pressure area's above the hood. But I think the side vents do 75% of the work. Adding the wicker would certainly help pull air out of the engine bay.

Very nice looking product OP, and good call on saving some $$$! The canned louvers are not cheap.

Epoxy cures and painted..
Ready to install.

as for the position comment, this is same position as recommended from Trackspec and other installs I have seen.
Front edge just behind second screw.

Cool idea and will save money if you have the means.

I don't have a laser cutter or waterjet, so I'll just be buying them ready to go.

Yeah I saw that after I posted. I said "ready to go" which a laser cut piece of metal most certainly is not. That would save on setup fees though, a local place is going to charge a lot to laser or water jet a one-off piece.

There's still more time and money involved than just purchasing it from SCS.

I'm not being negative. I would rather use my time for something else. There's value in being able to buy the finished product, for me.
