Alright guys I’m new on here so be gentle. I currently have a 2015 gt with a manual trans and I don’t want to have to get rid of another one of my hot rods because of my health. I have a spinal injury that causes me to have very weak and loss of feeling. I’m having trouble with using the clutch because of it. It’s all stock clutch/trans . Just wondering if there is anyway to get a system that doesn’t require as much effort. I know it’s hydraulic and it’s like butter compared to those old fox body cable ones. Somebody came up with the idea of maybe a clutch master cylinder with a bigger bore diameter (stock supposedly is 19mm) but after talking with a dude from American muscle he said more than likely that would just allow it to apply more pressure to the clutch and not necessarily make for a better clutch feel, which totally makes sense. Anyways just putting this out there to see if anyone has ran into this kind of thing or had ideas . Idk any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks and stay safe out there guys and gals!!!!!!😁

Hey Brent, I feel for you since I have a similar situation, although mine is more about pain than weakness. Anyway, to make your pedal easier, you would actually want a smaller bore mc. In hydraulics, it is all about fluid pressure (Pounds per Square Inch ) applied to area (square inches). As with any mechanical advantage, this would also correspond to needing your lever (clutch pedal) to travel further in order to release your clutch, so it may or may not be practical. Lots of measurements would need to be taken, and calculations made, to get it right. You could also work with percentages, say you feel that you could use the pedal if it was 20% easier. You would just need to calculate the bore size to decrease the surface area of the piston by 20%, and see if you can enable 20% more pedal travel. Machine shops can sleeve hydraulic bores to make them smaller, so it should be do-able. Various power assists could also be applied to the pedal, but there would be a downside to them as well, and our cars don't exactly have much unused space in this region.

As a life long 3 pedal guy myself, I no longer wanted the pain of my daily traffic slog, so I reluctantly opted for the auto box when I got my new 2015. I now have little regret since this has proven to be a very capable and fun trans even on track days. I think Ford did a good job with this one (I can't say the same about the later 10 speed I drove one time). I get that you don't want to lose your car, but a trade may be the most practical answer. I hope you find a way forward that works for you.

Have you tried replacing the clutch spring? Maybe that won't be enough for you, but worth a try. The Steeda spring is a popular and simple mod. I've also read about people trying different springs, both lighter and heavier.

I putted around different sites this morning looking at clutch solutions for those who are impaired, disabled or amputee. Some involve simple manual levers. Others use a push-button solenoid approach. I did not study them long enough to see if any one of them was better than the other.

I'd start by reaching out to any commercial, state or federal offices in TN, to see if they have any existing contacts. Something having to do with vehicle conversions. One call could lead to another. There might be something available that would work well for you.

Good Luck. :please:

Hey Guys,
As much as I love and recommend our Clutch Spring, I don't believe this is going to help in this situation. The Purpose of the lighter spring is to allow more feeling to come thru the pedal, instead of the heavy spring that just feels like on/ off. It has little to no effect on felt weight. Granted perception is in the eye of the end user.

You are certainly welcome to try if you feel disconnected on the engagement point.

I would start by looking at a new clutch. I know Mantic is way lighter, and engages close to stock. The Mantic is really light, to the point I am not a huge fan.

But whatever route you go, call them and tell them what you are trying to do. Don't believe the sales guy, but bounce what they are saying off internet searches. But I would start at replacing the clutch before I start throwing different bores and whatnot into the clutch.

As a Sale guy, I both agree and disagree with this message :)
Yes, always grain of salt information and do your own reasearch.
