GTD has already broken a record and it can still do better. Also No one gives a f**k how the GTD compares to a ZR1. GTD is after the big boys so sit down.

Also its not just a mustang, it shares some parts but have you seen the suspension setup and rear transaxle? this is a serious contender and it was designed based on the GT3 race car. You just talking smack now.
How am I talking smack? I made an observation on pricing and a guess that the ZR1 will beat the GTD in their testing. I don’t think that’s off base based on the Z06 running a 7:10:51 with a gearing issue in 5th. The new ZR1 will have a near 60% horsepower increase and more aggressive aero. I fully anticipate it will be faster and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.

If your feelings are hurt by that or you can’t be objective about it because you love Ford too much, that’s on you.

Well you are drinking the GM kool aid too. lol

F***k it lets agree to disagree. Chevy will need another bail out to beat the GTD no doubt.

Finally comment I was waiting for.

Everyone's is "congrats to Ford", "american car" - built by Multimatic in Canada....
It was a joint effort so congratz to both. Lets not forget it has an upgraded Coyote under the hood, etc.

The Multimatic team made sure to note that GTD started with the race car (GT3) and worked backwards as opposed to starting with a production car and building a race car. As far as we know, GM took the standard route of starting with a base C8 and building upwards towards a race car with the ZR1. That may put some limitations on the ZR1’s capabilities (it also might not, we just don’t know yet).
I thought the GTD was developed because one of the racing rules states there must be a road production car of the race variant to be approved entry. That was a huge reason if not the only reason the GT was sold (Billy Johnson mentioned it in a YouTube video.)

Chevy has had the same lineup in every recent generation so I believe everyone knew a higher end c8 was going to come out.

I don’t know all the exact racing rules but I would assume if they showed they were developing a production car based on the GT3 car, that would satisfy the requirements? Someone with more knowledge on the specifics can hopefully chime in there. But in the video Ford released, they were pretty clear the production car was engineered and developed based on the race car. I’ll have to rewatch the video and report back with the timestamp where they say that.

Ok I did some math...

So Lift = 1/2 speed squared x air density x surface area x coefficient of lift

ZR1: 1,200 lbs at 215 mph
GT3RS: 1,900 lbs at 177 mph

Since we know lift and velocity for both cars, we can solve for air density x surface area x coefficient of drag (call it variable "Q") for each car.

ZR1 "Q": 0.012017
GT3RS "Q": 0.028073

Plugging in the respective "Q"s for each car at the GT3RS's average lap speed of 114 mph (12.9 miles / 0.1122 hours) gives:

ZR1: 337 lbs downforce at 114 mph
GT3RS: 788 lbs downforce at 114 mph

So, the GT3RS makes more than double the downforce at any speed and weighs 700 lbs less. I don't think +500 hp is going to get the ZR1 remotely close but we shall see.

yea!…what @Ewheels said 👆

now I just gotta buy me a GTRS so I can show this to a ZR1 owner that tries to mess with me

The purpose of my reply was that Ford and Chevy came from two different directions like you said for different reasons. Ford wanted to enter the GT3/ GTD class but it is required that there must be a production vehicle of the car. Don’t want manufacturers making a one off vehicle. To your point I think it’s different if you have A race car you need to make a production car variant. Chevy really could’ve done whatever they wanted to.

Other than providing the s650 shell and engine, , everything was conceived, , designed, & hand-built by MULTIMATIC.

It's like, did Ford beat Ferrari ? No, Carol Shelby beat Ferrari with a British engineered car running a Ford powertrain.

More Marketing hype on a car that's not available to the general public at any price. Ford contracts an outside company like Multimatic to make a limited production run of special Mustangs so Ford can milk the publicity in the media. At least GM offers their built in-house Z06 and ZR1's to the general public, at significantly less cost, if you're so inclined.
But this is what makes car companies great. Just because they gave you an uncomfortable price doesn't mean they can always cater to you. I find the GTD to be amazing and I'm glad they did it. I'm not going to crap on it because I can't have one. "I also want Ford to make me a GT90 just for me."

So they stroked a check. NFL owners stroke checks all the time. So I guess it's the owner that won the superbowl eh ?
