I like to disassemble things.
Kinda makes its Ring time that much more impressive at that weight.
That is definitely looking at the bright side!

I would venture to guess they could shave some serious time off that lap if that car even weighed 3,800 lbs

We do not know how much the car at the Ring weighted as I doubt this was an actual production car.
Just from some of the video, it didn’t appear to be too stripped down on the interior but there could be some weight shaved off there. Body panels likely aren’t any different. If I recall, I think someone mentioned they didn’t have the magnesium wheels available either? Maybe the car they took was ~4,100lbs give or take but that’s still pretty beefy to go sub-7. Even with 800+ hp.

That was me.

It'd be a bit disingenuous to claim a time for a production car if it had been intentionally less than production weight. Based on some of the safety and telemetry equipment I'd argue it was even heavier than stock.

Thought it was you that mentioned the wheels but my memory sucks and didn’t want to quote the wrong person. Good point on the additional equipment too.

Someone reported it rolled onto the scales before going out.... 3800# I believe? That's with the cage and safety equipment

So how do you feel about your GTD now that you have the specs? Swaying one way or the other?

The weight was only 1 piece of the puzzle. Even then, that weight is not official and isn't released by ford.

My overall concern is that the car can't completely a 30 min session at my home track, Daytona. The GTD has the same supercharged 5.2 that the 500 has. Foot on the floor, running with the pros, i run into fuel starvation at about 20 mins. I will be bypassing my build until I know this is sorted.

I still feel the car is overpriced at $400,000.

The reports also list various weight and capacity data. Finally, curb weight. Holy shit, the GTD is indeed a fatty.

I think the tank is 16 gallons which would work out to about 97 lbs. So with an empty tank and nobody in the car it weighs 4,246 lbs (or 4,343 lbs with a full tank of gas).

I went and pulled the certification reports for a 2020 GT500 for comparison. Weight was 4,107 lbs (or 4,204 lbs with a full tank of gas).

The 2025 GTD is officially a full blown fatty.
I understand there are a couple hundred pounds of coolers/plumbing/pumps, but that really makes me think that even an NA version would be well over 4,000 lbs. If it is a less expensive version of the GTD there won't be any carbon fiber panels. Especially if this planned vehicle makes 600 hp and has any track ability at all - the coolers won't get much smaller and the weight savings vs. the supercharged version won't be much.

The Mustang platform has gotten way too heavy.

Regarding the weight. Ford submits the data in the application and represents it as being accurate and true. The EPA expects nothing less.

From an EPA letter to manufacturers regarding guidance in the supplied data...

From the "Code of Federal Regulations" § 86.1803-01 Definitions...

So the numbers you see that I posted are indeed legit. I think it fair to say that the curb weight number of 4,343 lbs is quite a bit more than many expected, including myself. Not gonna lie, this makes the Ring time even more impressive, given how rubenesque the GTD is.
