I actually hope the ZR1 puts down a really good time at the Ring. Maybe that will push Ford to improve the GTD (or maybe put out something totally different, something based off the LMDh they will be developing).
Competition is good for everyone. I really wish our Mustang had some.

Agreed. And maybe those that are pushing their GTD allocations out a year will benefit from Ford/Multimatic seeing the ZR1’s lap time. Even though Ford is focusing on Porsche, they will take note if Chevy puts up a significantly better time than they did

Well lets see, and I’ve said this here and other forums as well…

the Merc1 has the production car record at 6:29
the GTD is sitting a bit higher at 6:57

…I predict the ZR1 will fall somewhere in between them 😬

Stranger things have happened. Never know until it actually gets out on the Ring (or if Ford takes GTD to the tracks that the ZR1 went to).
Absolutely, the Ring is a different beast, and a 7 minute lap has a lot more variance and shit that can go wrong (especially that track lol), than the shorter tracks.

I cannot afford one but would love to have one. My hope is they find a way to bring it in at 33 to 3400 pounds race ready.

I would like to see Ford do the same and take it to get official times at US tracks. I would like to assume most buyers are in the states. I can’t imagine taking a $375k Mustang to COTA, Road Atlanta or Leguna Seca and have other cars running faster times but you respond by saying it did a faster Nurburgring time.

I'm still hoping that a future GT gets watered down versions of GTD components. That's about the only way I could see myself buying another new Mustang. SLA front and rear. Hopefully manual transaxle. YUM!

It sucks to see the current turmoil and I really hope things improve for potential buyers. I want Ford to succeed and produce a really great car.

SNIP just random engineers driving it? SNIP
Yeah, sure they are random engineers. :giggle:

You’d have better luck holding your breath for world peace. Multimatic will not be trickling their products down to anyone. The only thing ford owns is the body, electronics, and drivetrain. The aero and suspension are all Multimatic.

let’s be honest, they aren’t exactly freshly minted engineers, and maybe not pro drivers either… but definitely a step above “gentlemen racers” 🫠

I'm sure they can drive yea, but how many more seconds could an actual pro get?

I can’t speak to the ”engineers” that were running the ZR1 at the various tracks. I can speak to being at quite a few different types of events from bikes to cars where “amateurs” were faster then pro’s over the years. It actually wasn’t that unusual. It really comes down to seat time at a certain level. I still rememeber at Indy years back a driver saying the car was a mess, and the owner of the team got in the car and popped off what would have been a pretty decent qualifying time. Got out and said nothing wrong with it push the peddle down farther.

I would have no problem with Ford making cheap knock offs of the Multimatic stuff. I don't need the fancy shocks, even. I really don't want the drivetrain, either. I'd prefer a naturally aspirated engine and a manual transaxle. But I agree with your sentiment that it's unlikely to happen.

World peace might actually be more likely than getting what I want in a Mustang.

Let's see....600 HP NA V8, manual transaxle, size and weight of an SN95 GT....
