Guessing this has already been discussed, I did a search and guessing my search skills are lacking. Also a pretty open ended request, but what the heck.

I'm installing a catback soon and would like to get any good mods in before I bolt it back in. Guessing some things might be easier with it out? I think I read in one of the shifter threads that it might be a good job to do with the exhaust removed. Are there others. I've been looking at the IRS bushing stuff, but not sure if that requires removal. I would like to avoid taking it out to do stuff in the future, but that might be a futile hope as much as I want to make my mustang mine.
So about me, I drive it around town, like to feel the acceleration and all like everyone I suppose. Like to corner it, safely of course, lol. I don't think I will ever take it to a track, but might end up going to drag it on some of the events here, but not sure on that. I'm not looking to do any engine stuff (yet), but since that's on the other end of the car, not relative I suppose.

So what are some things that require dropping the exhaust, and what things are just easier with it out?

Again, sorry if this is a repeat, can't help but get excited looking at all the stuff available.
Thanks hopefully.

From my readings, installing Steeda diff inserts should be easier with the exhaust out of the way.

Installing the MGW (and I'm assuming any other shifter or shifter-related items) would have definitely been easier without having to reach around the exhaust.

This is much easier with the exhaust out. If you're dropping the cradle might as well look at doing the cradle bushing lockout kit at the same time. You should get an alignment after either one though.

Rear sway is also really easy with the exhaust off. You'd need to either change the front sway or do the "free front swaybar mod" though or the back will be too stiff compared to the front and cause oversteer.

If you're willing to spend the coin...

A one piece aluminum or CF driveshaft would be a good thing to put in with the exhaust out. I think BMR said the aluminum DS saves about 15lbs over stock, and the CF at 17lbs.

This. I installed my Barton shifter with the exhaust out. Piece o' cake.

Also a convenient time to replace the drive shaft with a one piece aluminum or CF one if that was on your bucket list.

Best,

Hmm, funny last night I was all excited to buy stuff, now I'm debating just going with the exhaust for now. I'm hoping to have the Solo catback by the weekend, doubting I'll be able to wait past Friday night. Thanks for all the info, hoping it helps out the next guy who is better at planning than I am.
So now I'm wondering how tough it is to take exhaust out when the time comes, are the clamps typically one time use? Also curious if clamping the pieces together makes them take a set and become difficult to take apart? Thanks again.

Depends on the clamp. The cheap-o c-clamps will crimp the pipes a bit and make it harder (but not impossible) to pull them apart later. The much wider band clamps tend not to do that and I think they make for a cleaner look.

I specifically waited until my exhaust came in to do the BMR CB005 rear cradle lockout and Steeda Diff Inserts. MGW shifter would be ok too, although I did mine with the exhaust still in.

I thought you can mount the MGW shifter from inside the cockpit or is that just the race-spec one?

The shifter goes in from the top, but you still have a lot of work to do underneath.

Okay, so say I buy Steeda's Tri shifter. How big of a pain is to put in with the exhaust attached? I'm thinking of delaying my install and ordering a shifter which I'm not even sure I want yet just so I don't have to remove my new exhaust down the road.
