I took it for a drive today. After about fourty minutes of city driving the axle temp gauge hadn't moved, so I got on the motorway and drove about 18 miles at 80 mph. Nothing. Not even a pixel above 50 °C. :frown:
So I'm not sure it's working. I understand that the diff warms up very slowly, but how slowly? I can't believe it doesn't even reach 50 °C after more than an hour. 😕
20 to 30 minutes of driving at 75 to 80 mph moves mine about 1/4 of the way around the dial on a day around 10C - 15C

Hey, you didn't say how cold was outside. If it was cold, it'd be normal for diff oil not to reach 122F, so I don' think anything is wrong with your gauge. I need to go somewhere 30 miles from my house (each way) one of these days. Will pay attention if the diff temp gauge moves, and report back. The high is around 50F nowadays, so don't expect the gauge to move, even though mine starts moving at 100F, not 122F (50C), like yours.
Well, mine moves notably, unless it's below freezing. The problem with differential overheating in the S550 is that the exhaust pipes run along the side of it in a way that gets the immediate area quite warm. That's why simple air scoop diff coolers and fins don't help (and in fact, they can make it worse), requiring pumped cooling with a fan driven HX further forward on the car.

So I watched it on a long drive yesterday. Nice day, high clouds, 60F / 16C, steady 83 mph / 134 kph.

With 15 miles of driving, differential was at 135F / 57C.

Within an hour of driving, it stabilized at 165F / 74C.

I took the same route today. This time the temperature was 6°C. And the road was dry, so those 18 miles were done at about 105-110 mph. This seems to have done the trick.

OK, so the gauge is working.

6k seems like a good point to up-shift when I need to accelerate very hard, but not necessarily so extremely hard as to justify going all the way to the red line. It feels like a good middle ground.
I like this feature. I find it nice how the contour of the tach turns yellow as I approach the limit, then the entire tach turns yellow. Besides, I find that the screen as a whole looks a bit more balanced with that yellow line in the middle. I can't explain why, it's just how I see it. :)

First experiments with Forscan today and I now have the axle temp gauge thanks to this thread :like: Now I just need to see if I can get it hot enough to register to prove it works ... (snow on the roads at the moment).

I have a question on the oil pressure gauge though ...

I can turn on the gauge, but it wont actually work (seems to be common issue on exports ?). The electronics must monitor the oil pressure as they adjust it to save fuel, but what other codes need to be adjusted to get the data to talk to the gauge ?

Any further help would be really appreciated :like:

Hi WD. I have the 18 AUS spec GT and after a coder had a play I got axle temp and engine oil pressure to appear. They both appear in the gauges option selector and show as gauges in the cluster. The axle temp works fine but the oil pressure does not budge so I suspect there is no sender for this info.
Hi,

I am at the same stage as you now ... :like:

Did you get anywhere with the oil pressure ? Exports must have the sensor as you can see on @Vlad Soare post / photo above ? Maybe it’s on export LHD’s but not RHD’s ? I wonder is something is different with external oil lines / filters / sensors on the RHD’s ?

No, it still remains a dead gauge for me.

Dry salt free roads today so I got my first drive out since adding the axle temp gauge :like:

I can confirm it registers after about 30 mins of driving in ‘40 mph’ zones.

Got it up to 2.5 lines on the scale after some short blasts on a length (about a third of a mile) of dual carriageway with a roundabout at both ends (no way should it be 40 mph, especially on a Sunday evening ... lol).

I have about a four mile drive home after and it had already dropped a full line.

Seems like torque adds temp like sustained high speed does.

Outside temp was 1 deg c, flashed up to 2 deg c for a couple of mins.
