Ah, sarcasm at it worst. You can direct that at those who made the comment. The Ford Engineers.

Now my comments. Weight reduction is always a good thing. Especially on the front end of the car. Will that weight make you faster? Maybe if your a pro like Billy Johnson. That was the Ford engineers point. Its all the driver unless you have a huge weight savings. The 19 owners have a better brake calibration. The 20 owners have that and revised steering. Tell me again which is the most track capable R. Not trying to be argumentative but, 20 owners will say they have the fastest R out there. Opinions

Looping this conversation back to the OP's original intent, I suggest the long term value of the R will likely be enjoyed most by those who have cars of limited production (Base Model R's, firsts, lasts, unicorns, etc) within a general production.

I have a HEPR with AC and Radio. It will suit me fine in the Texas heat while jamming tunes though my Apple Car Play and following Waze.

I bought this car to drive and have 3100 miles since September 2020.

It will not sit and gather dust but will be just fine on the track with the GT3's and GT4's from what I have read for $30K less.

True aficionados should have just bought a 2017 FP350S and would have been out of pocket over $115K.

My .02 Cents...

Tim, wouldn't it be great if we could get Billy Johnson to track a 2020 GT350R and a 2018 Base R model back to back in order to see where both cars ended up in terms of lap times?

Even with a Base R model having a ~100# weight advantage over the 2020 R model and if I was a betting man I would put my money on the 2020 GT350 based on the couple of important improvements that you pointed out earlier.

When I drive my 2018 Base R model back to back with my 2020 R I can certainly feel an improvement in the steering and chassis set up between the two cars therefore it would be interesting to see how that translates to improved track times for the 2020 R?

Up until the 2018 MY and before Ford ceased permanent production of the Base R model as of April 30, 2018 due to mandatorybackup camera legislation I suggest that the Base R models had a slight track time advantage over the Electronics Package cars when in the hands of the right individual and that was based only on the slightly improved power to weight ratio.

Having said that and as you suggested earlier I have to agree that the 2020 GT350R is the "Best of the Best" when it comes to the 6 year production run for the GT350R's!

Mine 5/26/15 was built on a Monday , and everyone knows that Monday is a faster car because they had a good rest over the weekend and they only use the fresh parts that were ready to go🤔

Na, just means everyone who built your car was hung over.

Anyone with any R has a special car.

I agree, would be nice to see what each car would do over the other from 15 all the way through 20. I suspect the advantage of any would be miniscule, but there. I believe the brake software was probably the biggest R upgrade. Ford said the 2020 steering mod would give the driver more confidence in the car. I would read that as a novice driver. I have pushed my R beyond its capabilities and never did I not feel confident. No mater which R, they all are extremely capable. But I have to agree, its sure would be a hellofa fun piece to have Billy back and do the test you spoke of

Randy pobst took a 2015 GT350R to a 136.11 at Laguna Seca. Has he retested the 2020 GT350R there?? Of course a different day’s temperature/ wind etc ?

I believe there are several tests that could be compared. But weather is a major factor in time variation as you eluded to.

Ford wasn’t happy with that test because it was a press car, they didn’t know that MotorTrend would take it and race it at Laguna Seca. It had old tires, suspension was not setup in track calibration—everything In that test was on the back foot if you will in Ford’s perspective. That’s the reason why when they put Probst in the GT500, it was done under Ford supervision with new tires and track setups in order to truly show real the track capabilities of the car.

When Randy went to Laguna Seca and posted the above time do you know the timing for that event?

Are you sure that was a 2015 GT350R and not a 2016 GT350R as Ford did not build any Pilot Production or press cars for the 2015 MY therefore suggest that he drove a 2016 GT350R PP car?

Also, if you can provide any write up's for this track event that would be terrific as I would like to read up on it?

Thanks!

Not direct at me but I can answer. 2016 GT350R. It was a contender in MotorTrend’s 2016 Best Driver’s Car competition.

In the end, the 2016 Shelby GT350R despite its bad tires and non-track setup, it placed 2nd in the competition, only losing out to the amazing McLaren 570S.

Awesome and really appreciate you posting and providing some terrific footage of Randy driving an early R model!!

Really enjoyed all that cool footage and suggest that all other members who may have not had the opporunity to see this footage before I believe that they will enjoy it immensely as well.

It seems just like yesterday when Road & Track hosted their 2016 PCOTY event in November 2015 with the 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350R being named their PCOTY "Winner By A Runaway Vote".

During that 2016 PCOTY event the Shelby GT350R model took down such formidable competition such as the Viper ACR, Ferrari 488 GTB, Cayman GT4, Corvette Z06 and the Mercedes-AMG GT S to name a few and are obviously all outstanding automobiles within their own right.

Thanks again for posting these two videos as they certainly reaffirm just how special these cars are and how proud and fortunate that I am to own one of these outstanding and cool vehicles!!

It's always fun to see that those who speak with authority about the future value of a specific model...usually own that model, lol.

Yes there’s a bias for sure for some.though as my 26th mustang , it’s one of the reasons I chose the GT350R. Knowing history repeats itself. Even my wife “ R “ happy I have one 😂
