I was on the way to run a couple of errands for Xmas shopping when I noticed a GT500(the most recent one) pull onto the road. A couple miles later I reached the highway entrance ramp and he headed north while I headed south. I mused "I guess I won't see what that can do." Less than a minute later a new Supra(BMW ha-ha) pulled up beside me. I was stopped at a underpass to get on the highway. I could see he had aftermarket wheels, it was lowered, had a tow hook at the back and it had a single 5" exhaust coming out the left rear. It was very loud when the light turned green as we headed onto the highway ramp.

He merged in front of me and got in the right lane of the highway due to a tow truck coming in the entrance lane. I slipped it into "Sport" (Gen. 3 Coyote with the A10) and headed down the highway. A 1/2 mile later he was on my tail and the road cleared-I guess everybody must have be at the Mall. I accelerated and then moved to the middle lane. I started going as he pulled beside me and he did too. He stayed with me for a while and I figured I would start walking him up on top-but to no avail.

We did it a couple more times when the road cleared again. He stayed with me each time. I've heard these B58 engines(6 cyl) can get as high as 900 hp in race trim. I was quite surprised with this one-as most people don't even bother trying me when they hear the A10.

A couple miles later-he went west at the next Interchange and I went south. He slowed down before he exited and gave me the peace sign. I gave him one too and we went our separate way. Cool guy.

Hagerty tested the Mach 1 vs the Supra, they were pretty close but the Mustang won.

C&D also tested them but used a manual Mach 1 (with probably a floormat under the gas pedal) and the Supra smoked it.

Supras are great cars. Was out with my bro at VIR and Road Atlanta in Oct. He was hanging with all the vettes and Porsches. I would have one if I were shorter. Apparently I only fit in Mustangs and 911's (with a helmet).

Drove a Supra. My left arm rested on the driver door, and my right arm rested on the passenger door. My knees rested under my chin.

You don't even wanna know where I had to put the shifter.

I can't speak to the modding potential because I didn't really mod mine, outside of deleting the Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) and a catback exhaust. Stock tune/intake/downpipe/turbo/etc.

Both the CDV delete and catback are pretty much mandatory if you get the manual.

The Zupra is extremely competent and composed doing what it does. You never feel out of control or like you're doing something crazy. The interior is nicer than the Mustang but not wildly so. The exterior is whatever - I prefer the S550.

The shift feel, though widely praised as being the best version of a BMW shifter, feels like rubber BS compared to an S550 with an MGW shifter. It feels a bit isolating but also refined. I prefer an S550/MGW setup by miles - give me that NVH and let me feel the synchros.

The clutch was extremely difficult to use quickly and aggressively on upshifts and downshifts until I deleted the CDV, and then it became normal.

Being a turbo car, it was still reasonably quiet even with the equivalent of a straight pipe after the factory downpipe. It was far too quiet with the stock exhaust, like embarrassingly so. I didn't want to change the downpipe, so I went with an AFE Takeda exhaust and installed their resonator delete. It sounded great, but not "I hate my neighbors please arrest me" loud.

The GT350 feels unhinged and wild. Every choice Ford made about that car (compared to the base cars) is a stark contrast to every choice Toyota made on the Supra. They're very different.

I mostly quit driving the Zupra after I got my pup, so that spot in the garage has been given to an Integra Type S so she can ride in the back seat.
