If you are going to leave it stock the 392. I prefer the coyote just because it can handle much more boost and there is really not much of a after market for the 392. Now that I have the mustang I haven't paid much attention but u couldn't even tune the 392 a few months back. I also have a jeep srt8 with the 392 that I thought about supercharging but bought the procharger for the mustang.

No, Dodge does not offer the 392 in a cheaper package. Frankly I'm glad they have the brains do not just throw a 485hp engine into a car with suspension and brakes designed for a 390ish HP engine (the 5.7)
Actually, that sort of mismatch would appeal to me, well, somewhat!

Admittedly, I thought it'd be nice of the Challenger could be ordered as a base 6-cylinder car, but with the 392 in it. Yeah, the smaller tires, smaller brakes, etc., though I imagine springs would have to be upgraded just to compensate for the heavier motor.

But, I'd also want the Challenger to lose some weight. It's a nice car, I really want to like it... but it's heavy, requiring bigger, heavier wheels/tires, bigger, heavier brakes, etc.

And, despite lesser fuel economy, lesser power and torque per liter (albeit at lower RPM), etc., it REQUIRES premium fuel. That seems a little unreasonable. It's not pushing the limits of performance for its size that seems to justify it, though I'm sure the details are more involved than that.

I cross shopped the scat pack with my mustang. The scat pack was a bit more but it's hard to compare apples to apples. I will say the active exhaust on the 392 is hands down the best stock exhaust I have heard.

As others have mentioned modding on the 392 seems to be less than the Coyote. I guess the ECU is much more locked down and Chrysler tries hard to keep people out.

My neighbor bought a scat pack and it sounds nice, he rarely drives it and as a garage queen w/ car cover I rarely see it. Fading stripe across the rear is nice as well, but it's a garaged car for an investment to him at least. I drive my Gen 2 Coyote a lot more which just turned 3,750 miles and is running great.

It depends on which forum your on. All the of the American Pony car entries can make a metric F%&K ton of power with the right mods. There is no best engine now adays. They are all amazing.

There is only one way to find out. Put that 6.4 lt hemi in a s550 with 8 speed auto and see what happens! My guess is 11's all day long with up to 118 119 mph!

I know this is an old thread brought back to life, but I do agree with bluebeastsrt there are soooo many options out there now, it's almost like we are living in the 60s & early 70s when it comes to quick street cars. All we need is for the Grand National to make a return...I mean there is the G8, GTO, all the variants of the old & current Camaro, Mustangs, Challengers, Chargers, Evos, STIs, Vipers, Corvettes, M3s, Audis, GTRs, man all you need to do is pick your poison if your funds can handle it.

Had a friend talking smack to me yesterday about I didn't want any of his AMG Benz w/500 h/p until I fired up the ghost-tuned Coyote :hail: :ford:

Both are best

I bought my 14' SRT in DEC of 13.' I ordered everything I wanted. It's mostly stock. CAI, TB, Exhaust, Front/Rear braces, tires, engine bling. I am very happy with the car. It's fast and great for long distance cruises. I'd be happy with a 5.0.

I preferred the looks of the Challenger. I like the looks of the 5.0. If you gave me a 16' SS Camaro, I'd sell it and buy the 17' TA 392 Challenger.
