tune/downpipe runs pretty good, 11.4 @ 118

four year old video and I didn't pay attention to see if it was 93 or E85, I'm sure they are at least a little quicker these days

sounds like you need a bigger turbo to go much past 500whp and the trans is next at over 600?
The twin-scroll turbo will definitely limit top-end performance, it just doesn't have enough capacity. A Pure 800 (or similar) would be a significant improvement. However, the twin-scroll design is always going to be the limiting factor. So, real serious horsepower it will require a lot more than just replacing the turbo. The ZF 8 speed auto can handle a lot more. I know a couple guys running over 700 whp in the Z4 M40i with no issues.

Yikes, I was harsh. Classic case of don’t judge something by a few photos. Turns out I actually like the Supra quite a bit (I have a ‘22 3.0) and it performs really well. And as others have stated it’s underrated power wise by likely 35+ hp. It’s a fun alternative and quite the change up from my ‘21 ZL1.

I hated on the Supra a lot, thought it was a clown car, now I own one and by far the best car I've ever owned. If I would've got the A10 Mustang I may have still had it, but the shit box trans in my Mustang made me hate the car and go down as one of the worst cars I've owned. The Mustang itself was a good car, but the trans made driving it so unenjoyable I never did. 3 years and 10k miles 600 of that was the last year of ownership. NA and high DA made the car slow asf 60-130 times in the 11's the Supra is in the 7's and runs high 10's in the 1/4. I miss the sound and the room in the Mustang a little. But that's it. Like said the Supra is small inside. I'm 5'5" and it works for me I can't imagine people bigger feeling more comfortable in it. It's a great car, but I know I'm not going to win anyone over on a Mustang forum. I just have had both and giving my opinion. I still lurk on here mainly to talk F1 though.

I just traded in my supra off a lease, it was a 2022, picked up a 2022 GT 10 speed premium for a good price. Will give initial impressions of both.

Transmissions:
The ZF wins here vs the 10 speed by a good amount. I am not sure if it is only the supra's tuning or what, but man it is always in the right gear , especially in sport mode. It literally feels like a videogame driving it. Downshifts/upshifts are instant, total control.

I have a Lund tune coming so we will see if that cleans up the 10 speed at all, but I cannot imagine it being better than the ZF.

I give the 10 speed a high score for gas mileage tho, that 10th gear gets me almost 30 mpg on the highway. I have 3.15 gears. Shifting is also decently fast, and (from what I hear) they can hold a lot of power . We will see when I go boosted. I imagine the transmission would be more important to me if I went to the race track a lot or didn't live in FL where every road is a 100 mile straight line.

Acceleration:
Supra is faster to 40 , Mustang is faster up top, by a good amount I would say. The Supra really starts to slow up after 90 maybe 100, it isn't slow by any means, but the 5.0 feels like a freight train that never quits. Supra is def geared for a fast 60 time.

Sound:
Mustang x100 IMO, I honestly hardly even heard my supra while driving (they play fake speaker engine noises), even in sport mode... Also the fake burble shifts and popcorn tune was cool for about a day, then it got kind of old. I don't really like the sounds of most 6 cyl...so I might be bias

Nothing beats a v8 sound, makes me want to go out and drive it right now tbh

Cornering:
Supra: feels like you are driving on rails, very planted, 50/50 weight distro.
GT: Feels good, but not great, "floaty," I imagine if I got the performance pack it would be closer maybe, but I don't track my cars.

Options:
Mustang wins here by far (then again I got a premium GT, but still). BMW puts their hands in everything ... and you WILL pay. I went with a base model because of this .... and regretted it ... I didn't even get apple car play or android auto... and there is no way to really get it after the fact. I literally have zero clue how a 60k sports car doesn't come with this stuff. No blind spot monitor, no adaptive cruise. When they say base they mean it.

Interior:
Hard to compare honestly, they both look really nice to me. I think the fit and finish of the Supra might be a bit better, but nothing huge, because honestly my GT looks amazing to me. If you have been in a bmw, you have been in a supra, even has the same shift knobs and buttons, etc.

Tuning:
Mustang wins, obviously. HUGE tuning community. I was unfortunate to get a later model supra with a locked ECU. The only option is to ship it off to Finland or get a piggyback (didn't really want that.) I personally would have loved to throw a tune and some mods at the thing, but again BMW puts their hand in it. The B58 loves mods too and it is a great engine, but a pain to go through all the hoops just to do something to your car. I have heard horror stories of people that spent the$1500-2000 dollars to unlock their ECU and BMW does an update over wifi... locked again... yeah not gonna mess with that

Looks:
Preference here I guess, but I thought the Supra looks amazing, It is a head turner for sure. People loved to come up to you and talk about it.

Random:
Supra is very small... I am 5'11 and I think I was about the max size you would want to be for being comfortable driving. It was my DD for 3 years and a few times I wanted something bigger for sure, however I didn't mind it too much.

The Mustang has much better visibility, I felt like I could not see anything except what was directly front of me, so that can be Claustrophobic to some people.

All in all I loved owning the supra, it is a very fun car, you can tell they put a lot of work into it to make it a track beast from stock. It did however make me NOT want a euro car again for some time. If it was truly a Japanese toyota-only car , I might change my opinion, but there is just something annoying about the top of the line toyota sports car and sharing almost everything with a 340i... idk.

So far the mustang surprises me how much you get and how fast it is just being stock (That will surly change soon)

I came from a 2020 Supra Premium, so I will corroborate or add to this.

Trans:
Agreed on trans. The ZF8 in the Supra specifically is amazingly tuned. I’m hoping a wengerd tune makes the A10 a bit smoother. I don’t expect it to match the ZF8. Just looking to not be thrown around so much.

Acceleration:
Different power delivery. Just look at the dyno charts, and the feeling on the road matches that. A simple downpipe+tune wakes up the top end of the Supra. I miss all the torque down low, but then I forget about it once I’m up top. Just different.

Sound:
I had a downpipe+tune+intake. The B58 sounded great with tons of turbo noise from the intake and even a noticeable amount from the exhaust on decel. The b58 sounds great as a turbo I6, and the coyote is my fav v8 of the modern ford/chevy/mopar offerings. The engines both sound good for what they are. Better is subjective.

Cornering:
Supra is a track beast out of the box. Sway bars and 200TW tires and it’s harassing Porsche GT cars on track. Mustangs below a Mach 1 aren’t really in the same league on a circuit.

My GT is very soft and floaty in comparison. Nowhere near as confidence inspiring, but I have a list of mods ready to remedy that.

Options:
I had a Supra Premium so there’s more parity, but my Mustang has $14k of options on the window sticker (I bought it used, though). Mustang wins. I now have cooled (not just heated) seats, better speakers, ambient lighting, customizable dash, and fun pony puddle lights. The Supra did have better parking sensors including front and sides.

Interior:
Supra felt more premium, but my 401a is a very nice place to be. Just very “Ford” (I also have an F-150, and there’s a lot of similarities). The Supra felt a bit more elegant. Mustang has a back seat, so I can ride with my toddler. This was the #1 reason why I switched platforms.

Tuning:
My 2020 was not locked like the 2021+ Supras, so bolt on and simple tuning was easy. There’s definitely a crossover point where if you’re going for a certain goal, the mustang becomes better platform with a lot more overhead. FWIW though, the “58” class at FL2K and TX2K have me rethinking this. Depends on goals IMO. If we’re talking cosmetics, Mustang by a massive margin.

Looks:
Supra in my book all day. It looks better in person than in photos, and the low roofline and big rear wheel arches give it a lot of character. It’s really unique on the road given the low production numbers. I obviously like the way mustangs look - I bought one. But, Supras punch way above their price point day to day.

Overall:
The Supra is a great platform. If you can deal without backseats (I see two seaters as a perk, FWIW), I recommend trying it out if you want a modern day sports car. At just 3,400lbs, it’s a lightweight by today’s standards.

I could run 11s at the strip, have Porsches and C8s point me by at the track, and get 30mpg on my drive to and from these events with ease. It has a lot of curb appeal, and despite what the internet would have you think, people (car enthusiasts or not) love it day to day so you get to share your passion with others often.

That said, I’m thrilled with the value the Mustang has offered me so far. I love going to cars and coffee with my toddler or just running errands with him in the Mustang. Just want to smooth out this trans, and I think I’ll be even more smitten by it.

The looks of the supra are an anomaly that needs to be studied by scientists. Some angles it is the most badass looking car and you feel like you are looking at a modern day bat mobile mixed with testosterone, then the next angle it look like gonzo

100% the nose is the worst thing about the car. A lip really really helps it. I do dig the new Adro front end they just released.

but 100% agree with you

His forum name DOES include the word MAN, so it really does seem like a fair assumption.
