I can't seem to find this online anywhere. How do you remove an aftermarket splitter from a M1? Do you have to drill out the plastic rivits? Or does it just unscrew and pull off?

Assuming you’re inquiring about the lower splitter that is standard equipment on a M1 HP and the aftermarket splitter attaches in the same manner, then if you just want to remove the lower splitter the plastic rivets need to be removed. I believe the lower splitter can be removed with the belly pan, ie splash shield, which could make the removal of the rivets easier.

So my question is, do the plastic rivets need to be drilled out?

what aftermarket splitter? Do you have pics of the "plastic rivets?".

Generally plastic rivets used by ford are not permanent, and can be removed.

I believe they are all the same. Pretty sure mine is OEM.

Soooo can they be pulled out or do they need to be drilled out?
The OEM splitter is riveted to the undertray splash guard. So it all becomes one piece with the undertray, to remove the splitter from the undertray you'd need to remove the rivets (by drilling or cutting them from the back side).

You could also buy another stock undertray as a replacement as well I suppose.

If you're asking about an aftermarket splitter, that might be very different.

I used a small burr bit on a drill to create a center point and then an air hammer with a pointed tip and just knocked them out. But that was from underneath the vehicle. If you can remove the lower splitter with the splash shield, you may be able to just cut them with a flush cutter.

If I remember correctly, there are 2 7mm head screws that attach the splash shield to the fender right in front of the tire wheel wells that are under the lower splitter. You may need to drill an access hole there or get the splitter pulled down enough to access the screws.

Here is a link to a thread I did which may help.

Well that was easy. The PO just used the bolts and no rivets. 🤦‍♂️

You probably already did, but re-install the screws after the lower splitter is removed.
