Do you guys have a suggestion for cleaning the gray plastic/splitter area for minor nicks or scratches? Besides not cleaning it since they will happen over time

You nicks and scratches arent something you can ‘clean’ away, its damage. Soap and water with a sponge will clean most of the cleanable debris away.

unlike paint, with plastic you cant polish or remove a bit of material and then refinish it.

if it really bugs you, you can budget for a replacement down the road.

I've attached some reference photos.

Like many, I've taken a few licks and scuffs on the splitter. IF the blemishes are on the underside edge or the leading edge of the splitter, some 1000-grit paper, a sanding block and modest, even pressure can smooth those out to where they are virtually unnoticeable.

Otherwise, agree with @NightmareMoon . You'll see in the photos how the topside finish is pebbled. Any material removal from sanding or polishing will have the effect of shining the surface and making it even more noticeable.

Something that might make things less visible on the pebbled portions: CarPro Perl or a similar product. Often on plastic , the scratch shows a different hue of the piece. Perl will help mask that effect.

I use a microfiber mitt and maintenance soap to clean.

Long-term, buy a splitter, keep it in the box and stow it somewhere. It'll give you a sense of comfort knowing, not matter how bad it looks, you've got a brand new one in safe keeping. :giggle:

With the Machs no longer being built, someone made a comment the covers were on sale in some locations, people clearing out inventory. Maybe Ford or a dealer is sitting on a splitter at a great price.. :like:.

I had a stained splitter from a chemical cleaning agent and nicks from about 5k track miles. This tire stuff restored it up pretty good. It's goes on kind of thick so it smooths some minor scratches and nicks.

But as for what NightmareMoon and Skye wrote, yea, splitters are kind of consumables. I expect to replace them after a while. Keep eyes out for a good deal on a spare on the market place 🤷‍♂️

Try a vinyl, rubber & plastic coating. As Tony mentioned, those are thicker and will “fill in” the nicks and scratches, or at least give the appearance that they’re filled in. And it won’t change the texture like sanding would.

And, they’re doing their job to some degree (beyond performance uses) by taking the nicks and scratches from scraping and driving instead of the painted surfaces.

Ford OEM replacement? They've got to be out there for a few hundred bucks. I paid 300ish for a GT350 splitter and about a grand for the R splitter. I'd think that big Mach 1 splitter would fall somewhere in between.

Yeah for sure
Better on the plastic/splitter than the paint. Same goes for the rocker panels on the side with protecting the paint

I’ve had some success using black liquid shoe polish. After sanding.
