like I posted on the "rear view camera" thread: there needs to be a way to hook up the rear view cam and a front cam to record not just breaches of security but when the proximity sensors are activated. these cars are not cheap. insurance companies are sketchy and people lie... I want proof saved somewhere. we have the technology... what's the problem? Is the system upgradable to this extent?
I eyed stuff online last night after seeing all of these crash threads.

Blackvue makes a front and back camera that stick to the top of the windshields and records to a SD card (I think it does 14 hours of recording) Check on amazon

The whole setup was about $500 and looks to be very very basic wiring skills

That's up to the insurance companies really. I can't imagine they deny coverage on private property- as you are really insuring private property itself (cars, homes, land, etc).

That would be like saying if you slip and and fall on private land you cannot recover which you obviously can- that's what the insurance is for.
I completely agree but wouldn't put it past an insurance company to come up with something ridiculous. As long as there's nothing expressly stated in a Florida statute speaking to this, I like his chances with the insurance company.

Wow sorry for the damage, what a nightmare! Hopefully his insurance will take care of it but it will be a PIA.

I usually leave a huge gap between me and the car in front of me personally.

I am so sorry this happened. Wishing you the best in getting everything repaired. I think it is good to get your insurance company involved.

Oh man I hate to see this. I know that made you sick. I hope the insurance companies don't yank you around and you can get it taken care of ASAP!

If I were you I would file a claim with your insurance and make them put the pressure on his insurance company. I had to do this on a most recent accident and my insurance hasn't gone up. It happened on private property so the cops wont file a report stating who's at fault so the insurance will have to determine that based off of your statement and his statement along with physical evidence(pictures, videos, etc). Good luck man and as long as he says it was all his fault then you should be fine.

I wonder if you had a dash cam video of the incident, would that get you off scott free?

As long as you have his insurance info, you're fine. The only sucky part is waiting for the parts to come in.

Yes, I would be livid. But, at least you got the guys info and at the end of the day, it's a car that can be fixed. Might even be able to upgrade your bumper to something better. The good thing is, you're okay.

Now the guy can go lie and say he was rear ended, and that is when evidence comes in.
Correct - they all cover you on private property. Your house, the grocery store, college campus, work, mall.... The list is endless. Your car probably spends more time on private property than public.

In the end it will all get taken care of, it wasn't a moving violation so your rates likely won't change even if your insurance company ends up having to pick up the tab. Start working with a repair shop to get that Roush front end and turn this into a good thing. :D

I feel your pain man, it's bad enough to have the damage to your new car, but it's x10 worse because the van driver is pulling that bullshit. The good thing is your car will easily be as good as new.

Call me paranoid, but it's stories like this that made me a die-hard dashcam user. I hope I never need the video.
