First step is to report it to your insurance company, they will coordinate on getting estimates and contacting the other guy's insurer. Provide all of your videos and any other info you have. As long as your company determines you were not at fault, the other company will pay both your repair and your deductible.
^ This. YOU call YOUR insurance. They'll go after who they need to.

Called my insurance and I'll be getting a quote Wednesday morning. They want me to go through their people first, but I told them I'll ultimately only go through my dealer's collision center.

I feel like no matter how good this is fixed, I'll feel like something is off.

And this guy hasn't gotten back to me with his insurance info despite telling me he'd be home soon two hours ago.

Be careful dealing with the other persons insurance. I was driving my sisters car a few days before Christmas and a girl backed into us in a mall parking lot. We filed a claim with her insurance (Farmers) and when they called back to interview me about it they told me that the girl said that we ran into her. Then they started switching people assigned the claim to make us tell what happened over and over again to try to get us to change our side to discredit us. Then we had to get my sisters insurance involved to defend us. Turns out Farmers lied to us, the girl never said we hit her. Farmers just told us that to try to trip us up. They finally paid up when we said we were going to use the data logger in my sisters car to show that I was stationary and that we were going to obtain camera footage from the mall security. I even told them that we should all take lie detector tests.
If I'm in a crash like that again I'm going to start recording with my phone and keep it in my pocket while I get the other person to admit fault. People apologize right after it happens but then they stop talking after they've had time to think about it.

That story makes me sick.

I just looked at this guy's ID. He lives in fucking Palm City... that's a three hour drive from me on the east (opposite) coast of FL. I think he's just in Tampa to celebrate Gasparilla, which was the reason he rented that van.

Still hasn't got back to me. Pretty sure I'm going to end up $500 out of pocket paying my deductible.

I wish I recorded him admitting fault.

Officer should have responded! I was a Collier traffic deputy for 20 years! It DOESNT MATTER that it was in a parking garage!
They have community service aids, or deputies that specifically do minor parking lot crashes.
You will now have a hell of a time with the insurance companies because of that.
Ask yourself this...if you were doing burnouts and driving like an asshat in a private parking lot...homedepot, walmart whatever....would you get a ticket?
....BUT it's private officer.
You got screwed. You NEED that report. But after the fact...you won't get one.
If you love driving, if you love your car, KNOW your traffic laws and rights.
This is a "short form" crash report...no injuries and no crime involved..like Dui etc.
if they are too busy a CSD does the form, if not they at least respond AND GIVE YOU THE SHORT FORM AND VERIFY BOTH PEOPLE HAVE INSURANCE.
***(b) In every crash for which a Florida Traffic Crash Report, Long Form is not required by this section, the law enforcement officer may complete a short-form crash report or provide a driver exchange-of-information form to be completed by each party involved in the crash. The short-form report must include:
1. The date, time, and location of the crash.
2. A description of the vehicles involved.
3. The names and addresses of the parties involved, including all drivers and passengers.
4. The names and addresses of witnesses.
5. The name, badge number, and law enforcement agency of the officer investigating the crash.
6. The names of the insurance companies for the respective parties involved in the crash.
(c) Each party to the crash must provide the law enforcement officer with proof of insurance, which must be documented in the crash report. If a law enforcement officer submits a report on the crash, proof of insurance must be provided to the officer by each party involved in the crash. Any party who fails to provide the required information commits a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318, unless the officer determines that due to injuries or other special circumstances such insurance information cannot be provided immediately. If the person provides the law enforcement agency, within 24 hours after the crash, proof of insurance that was valid at the time of the crash, the law enforcement agency may void the citation.****

Just stay calm. You can't change what's out of your control. Life happens is what I kept telling myself. Call his insurance and open a claim telling them clearly what happened. They will contact him. Get the persons name from his insurance that you talk to and keep bothering them. Start a claim with your insurance if they give you trouble and they will fight it out.

I have no idea if our 2015 Mustangs have data loggers but if you were stationary when he hit you tell them that you will have your data logger checked to prove you were sitting still at the time of impact.

Ok, slightly drunk right now.

1) all of your tips are hugely appreciated (especially the OG S550 crew; you're like online family lol)

2) I wish I filed a police report, but GOOD news! This guy just texted me back with all the necessary info. Despite me reading his ID and seeing his address being so far out, apparently he works in my building (outdated ID?). And he said he sees me every day (dafuq this guy's a ninja apparently) so he told me he wouldn't try to duck and hide.

3) I took your advice Ryan. It's an accident. Things happen. Even though I'm heavily invested in the car (emotionally and financially), I know things will work out.

I went from semi-depressed to taking a huge breather and realizing it'll all work out. Phew.

I realize I'm not out Scott free but it's coming along.

Totally buying a dash cam or getting a mount for my GoPro though. I don't want to deal with this shit in the future.

When all else fails and you're feeling shitty about the situation, just remind yourself of one thing: It could always be worse. Much, much worse.

Far from rock bottom. I've got a brand new GT. It'll be fixed soon enough. Life is good.
