The new 2016 Focus RS coming sort of shares the 2.3L Ecoboost with the Mustang and Lincoln MKC. This is true except the RS engine will be an evolution of the Mustang engine. Ford has stated that it will have 215+ HP but wild speculation has the engine output at 350 lb-ft of Torque and 360 HP. Many of the 'changes' applied to this engine are similar to what the aftermarket is already doing to the Mustang Ecoboost engine, namely:
- lower restriction intake
- lower restriction exhaust
- larger intercooler
- larger twin-scroll turbocharger
However, Ford is planning on sleeving the cylinders. I am pondering if this is a heat management action or a strengthening of the lower end to handle even higher outputs.
There are also stated 'changes' to the head to allow freer breathing. I suppose we will need to wait for the Focus RS launch to get the full rundown and technical details of what the changes will be but what a potential race engine this could become.
