Manuals are slower. You CANNOT shift faster than a computer can (think its 8ms or something ridiculous). A tune will net you what you are looking for, as you suspect.
The motor has camshafts that are retarded or advanced by way of modulating oil pressure or electro-magnets (unsure which it is on this motor). Why is for sound.

A custom tune will always yield better results than a generic tune, which they have to guarantee will work with any V6 Mustang. A custom tune is set to the specific parameters of YOUR vehicle. Every car is slightly different (thousandths of an inch variances here and there).
If you like the sound they make them Buy the muffler they use. You won't get the burble because that is caused by unequal length exhaust headers and the turbulence that they generate. Had plenty of people complement my exhaust and its nice and throaty.

Increased pressure for turbo to avoid lag. It's not really a system designed for performance. A better option would have been to dump the excess through the exhaust IMO.
