UPDATE: We have additional details about the upcoming 2016 Focus RS from another trusted source, including power output, so let's start with that. With the Mustang's V8 holding down a 435 hp spot at the top of the pony car pecking order (for now, until the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 emerges), the Focus RS is free to turn up the horsepower wick. Since the 2.3-liter Ecoboost is easily capable of more than its 310 hp output in the Mustang, which was dictated more by fuel economy concerns than anything else, the RS is free to pump out between 325 and 350 hp. The higher figure is more likely. This is because as a low-volume, niche product that doesn't compete with the Mustang GT, there's no reason to hold the Focus RS back.

Wow sounds pretty great, also because of this:

"The new (AWD) system will employ torque vectoring front and rear to aid handling, and after debuting in the Focus RS it will trickle down to other applications."

AWD in the RS at last. That's thrown another spanner in the works for me. So hard to choose.

HA! You totally beat me to the punch, I was just going to post this link!

So ya know what this means?! If the 2.3l ecoboost is capable of 350 hp in a Focus RS than it may not be more than a matter of tuning recalibration to get the same out of the Mustang eb! Ford may even offer a "warranty safe" package through FRPP / dealerships!

I know the F-RS may have a different turbo and some other slightly different hardware but this kind announcement screams "untapped potential" especially once the major tuners like Cobb, Lethal Performance and Livernois get involved like has been talked about in the other thread! 400hp / 400tq out of these cars may be a closer reality than even we expected.

This seems really surprising to me. Not that I have any insider information on the RS, but AWD just isn't something Ford has done with their performance cars. Sure you could argue the SHO is AWD, but I think that has more to do with the platform already being AWD to begin with.

Its great to see Ford giving Performance Love to other models. I'm pumped for the new edge with 2.7 V6 EcoBoost with AWD....beast

Oh man an AWD, ~350hp Focus RS would be sweeeeeeet. A real STI fighter from Ford, with the excellent Focus chassis. Hope they have a decent business case for it and can build the thing.

I really love the idea of a 300+hp 4-banger with AWD. I just wish it didn't look like something snatched out of a Fast and Furious movie.

A 350+hp, AWD Mustang... now that would really make my day.

Hopefully the mustang will have the same turbo, and they only limit it's performance via engine mapping.

Years ago in the UK (and maybe Europe) Ford did a Sierra RS Cosworth that later in it's life (1990) had an AWD system. It's a modern classic.
