Good video. Does our warranty require an OEM filter? Did anyone verify that? If not, then we already have our in house track rat (aka the chairman) who has used the K&N over many oil changes and extensive track use.

Back before there was such a thing as an FL2087, the FL2062 was the oil filter specified for the GT350. I never had any issue with that filter under track use. I understand it was a GT350, but the point I am trying to make is that the 2062 was fine under extreme use.

The K&N appears to have reinforced plastic support, but got forbid if the thing should ever fail, would your engine be covered under warranty? Again my point is that the FL2062 was just fine. The K&N appears to have better reinforcement than that. Albeit, the FL2087 has metal reinforcement, which is the gold standard.

For this reason, I would let my dealership do the oil change (gasp) if I couldn't put my hands on a FL2087.

This is Fords problem. Let them handle it. God forbid you ever let the dealership do your oil change, I certainly would go over every step after the fact and ask to see the oil cans and filter box after it was done. I would also verify what filter they used and ensure it met with Ford's approval. Make sure you get that in writing.

I googled Amsoil EA15K43 and did not get a direct hit. Searching the Amsoil site for 2020 5.2 J code (GT500) and 2020 5.2 Z code (GT350?) gives no hits. Where did this filter come from?

I bought directly from Aimsoil. They may no longer be in stock. I would try to contact them directly

someone who works at O'Reilly Auto parts and owns a GT500 just posted this on FB and says that it has a metal inner brace. AFAIK, the only other metal inner brace is the OEM FL-2087. he also put a magnet inside and it stuck to the inner brace. and the filter is only $16.99...

So maybe good news. I work at Orielly and was needing an oil filter like many of you for my GT500. Fords was special order and we couldn’t get one, same with the dealerships. I check constantly to see if we carry a new one and today I saw royal purple made one. I ordered just to see if it would work and I believe it will. When I compared the GT350 to 500 filter, only difference I saw was the inner tube or brace was metal on the 500. I’m guessing this is because more pressure due to it being supercharged but I could be wrong. When I inspected the royal purple, it is also metal tubing or brace. So yeah I believe this will work guys

Shame on Ford for letting it get to this. There is no excuse for this at this point in time. I mean shame......

Looks like the same filter as the Aimsoil filter. Plastic insert, but beefy

I'll buy one and report my findings.

Edited to add. I won't use it, I just did 3 oil changes with 2087s and I have one left over. I may tear it apart and document it.
