Every oil analysis I seen so far tell me that changing the oil at 1k mile is a waste of money. Hard facts are there but people still do it. Is it just a psychological thing?

I wanted to change out my oil and transmission fluids to a different brand, so I did so yesterday at 1,058 miles. Got an oil sample for Blackstone, too. Even if there isn't much wear, I still wanted to switch to a much better oil in general.

I replaced the OEM drain plug with a magnetic core unit. It cost only a few dollars and gives me the peace of mind that at least some steel bits are being kept out of the lube system.

First oil change

Go to pg 418 Owners manual should be around 5000 miles and should be free at your Ford dealer after that $50.00 also read at the bottom of the pg and see what else they are required to do. To make sure they rotate your tires take a black sharpie mark on the drivers front DF and drivers rear DR in small letters just below the tread. When you they are done and give the car back to you do a complete walk around checking for and scratched or anything that wasn't there when you took it in. Had I first oil change at 5000 miles they washed the car had 4 large scratched of removed paint on the back bumper the had to repaint it plus a rental car.

I drive nearly all city miles. The Fleet Manager at my dealer said 5K miles or 1 year. I just got the email saying it was time for the oil change. So where do I find where the dealer does the first oil change for free?

In my case, it's just a habit from my younger days' new motocycles and cars that often called for early first oil changes in the owner's manuals, mostly around 1k miles. If I had seen the posts about recent 1k oil analysis I probably would have delayed my oil change, though in hind sight I'm not sure if my drain plug wouldn't have come loose before 5k came up given it was almost already loose at 1400 miles. And I did put in synthetic, that makes me feel a little better because I drive mostly short distances, with above average time of engine running cold. Plus being in the Northeast and cold weather coming on, it does make me feel better cranking up the engine with synthetic in it.

I gotta find a better way to catch the oil filter spill next time. I cleaned up the mess as best I can but some oil still dripped on my driveway after the change from the crossmember under the filter, but dripped from the passenger side even almost a day after the change.

My dealer gave me two free oil changes in a year. I am still debating if I want the grease monkeys to touch my car.

if ford is like other manufactures, there are most likely additives for break in, i highly doubt its regular oem oil, so changing at 1k is a waste. i'll be doing mine at 5k, as i dont drive that much. i did oil analysis with blackstone labs on every oil change in my subaru, it drove me nuts, im not doing it on this car..

Nope, just 5w-20 synthetic blend from Motorcraft. Nothing special. Again, people discount changing the oil early not just for "wear", but also to get BETTER oil in there.

I just hit 1500 miles and thinking about about changing my oil. Would you guys trust the dealer with oil change or just diy?

Also what is the most commonly used oil?

You'll get 1,000 different opinions on both those questions.

Here is your first opinion: AMSOIL SS 5w-20 or 5w-30 and their EO filter DIY or taken to a trusted dealer/mechanic.

I did my first change at 1,500 and the next at 10,000 (at least 2/3 of those 8,500 miles were highway though, so I'd have changed sooner if I was driving my current cycle of about 50/50, 60/40 city/highway). The Blackstone analysis of my 10,000 mile oil was incredibly good, almost no metals or undesireables at all and very good TBN (4.9). I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20. I just did my most recent change at 19,500 and have sent a sample of that in for analysis as well, since my drive cycle changed significantly after 15,000.

I'm just going to take it to the dealer the first go around since it's free and change it again myself at 3000 to air on the safe side. I was going to do the first change at 5000 but after seeing a cut open filter in the 350 sub forum I changed my mind lol.

For me I am gonna do at 2000 and at 5000.
Realistically, I am just gonna do once every year.

Oil Analysis at 3,200 miles- Oil Change #1

Here is my oil analysis report on my 15 GT at my first oil change

This should "clean up" on my second oil change which I will do at 8,200 miles or 1 year.

I replaced factory fill oil with Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-20.

Thanks for posting. Wish more folks would post theirs when they have it done. Looks like a very good report. No sweat running the oil longer.
