I didn't change my oil but I did swap out the filter at 1500 miles. I will wait until at least 5000 for the first change. I like Alloye's plan

This is Coyote #3 for me. The following formula worked perfectly well for DD use on #1 and #2:
  • Don't do an early change of the factory fill.
  • Change every 7,500 miles or when the oil life monitor says so, whichever comes first.
  • Stick with Motorcraft 5W-20 semi-synthetic and the Motorcraft filter.
I never got the infamous Coyote tick or had any oil consumption problems with this plan. In particular, my '13 saw heavy use, had 46K on the clock when traded, and still ran like a brand new car.

One thing I do recommend is keeping an eye on the dipstick before that first change and topping off as needed. I have experienced some consumption during the first 2,500 miles with these engines.
My third coyote as well, I agree never change the factory fill early. I thought that was common knowledge by now.

Likely mine. I did change it at 1000 miles. Went with Motorcraft full synthetic. Will change in 10k increments going forward.

Did this with my 01 and 03 Cobras, zero issues. Do this with all my new car purchases.

im at 2500 miles, had to put a half a quart of motorcraft oil in to get it back to the middle of the 2 dots on the dipstick, as per your warning

And why "never change the factory fill early"?

I would agree that there is no real reason to, but it certainly won't hurt and could help if there is any trash in the oil.

I have heard stories about special break in oil coming from the factory but that gets debunked every time it comes up.

I just changed mine at 3300 miles and it's probably psychological but, it seems to run a bit smoother now.:headbang:

I haven't decided for sure yet, but I've been thinking of doing my first at 3k. After that I plan on sticking with changes every 5k because that is what I'm used to doing with my old car (as an added bonus, my EB takes 5w-30 just like my other car, so I can buy synthetic 5w-30 in bulk :) )

I always change all my cars at 1500 or so then never over 3000 mi,Mobil-1. I never heard of a motor failure because of too frequent oil changes.
I also like to think that the next owner will be getting a quality, well maintained car.

I just sold my Z06 C5 and bought my first Mustang. Some of the Vette guys don't seem to ever drive much, they just change the oil and wax 'em.

I didn't think I'd find that over here.

My dealer does one free oil change at 5000k miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. That's what I'll be doing.

What does the owners manual say? My last BMW and VW with maintenance wouldn't change the oil till 10k miles.

Owners manual basically says 10k, but 5k for heavy duty or severe service.

That is because they are paying for it. Friends of mine at both BMW and VW dealers say never change the oil at the 10k they recommend. Get he oil changed at 5k then free at 10k and so on every 5k so every other is free till 36k on vw.
