What gives...is there something I am missing here or something that's changed with oil and oil filters??? Is there some secret compartment with a code word underneath to get to the drain plug or something?
Do you know parseltongue?

Speaking of oil changes.....I haven't crawled under my car yet but when the finance guy was trying to sell me all of the Ext. Warranties and I was declining...he made a comment. It was something along the lines of "think you can change the oil on that new mustang?"

That was a sales pitch.

However the extended and maintenance packages are a good value if you get the right price and you plane on keeping the car for the length of the term.

Plenty of people change their own oil even on the new cars. Some actually enjoy it. Me? I enjoy piece of mind but the mechanic in me appreciates the do it yourselfers. :)

Maybe he thought you had puny arms and can't break the filter and drain bolt free. Time to bust out some weights and put in some reps. ;)

I'm surprised how many of you are getting the oil changed at 1k miles. I don't think it's necessary anymore as it was over a decade ago.

:lol::lol: No, I can definitely open a jar of mayonaise!!!;);)

I thought about the service plan but...mine is not a daily driver and will be lucky to have 6k miles a year. I might have used the service plan 2 times and it would expire. I couldn't justify the cost.

1000-1200 miles first change then every 5000 miles.

What do you guys think of Amsoil Signature 5W-30 for the Coyote? I hear the OEM filter is pretty good.

This is Coyote #3 for me. The following formula worked perfectly well for DD use on #1 and #2:
  • Don't do an early change of the factory fill.
  • Change every 7,500 miles or when the oil life monitor says so, whichever comes first.
  • Stick with Motorcraft 5W-20 semi-synthetic and the Motorcraft filter.
I never got the infamous Coyote tick or had any oil consumption problems with this plan. In particular, my '13 saw heavy use, had 46K on the clock when traded, and still ran like a brand new car.

One thing I do recommend is keeping an eye on the dipstick before that first change and topping off as needed. I have experienced some consumption during the first 2,500 miles with these engines.

Naw, I looked at the Oil Filter when I had the car up on the rack getting the X-Pipe installed. Oil Filter is on the driver side at the front...looks pretty easy to get to.

Great plan, I like it.

Ditto...might just opt for a Gearbox flush and fluid replacement with QDC and XL-18 as well just for piece of mind! :headbang:
From my experiences, I would recommend you stick with the factory gearbox fluid if you aren't having any issues. Playing around with fluids and additives could cause you more headaches.

Ummm...QDC AND XL-18 additive ARE the Ford factory fluids as per Ford Motorcraft's revised and updated Transmission Fluid Chart of December 2014 for the MT82 Getrag Gearbox in response to the current NHTSA TSB of 2011 for shifting problems with the MT82. :first:
