I know, I know you guys are probably tired of this topic. But I have a couple legitimate questions and concerns I'd like to get your opinions on...

So I bought a left over 19MY that sat on the lot for 3 seasons, spring, summer, winter. Before driving it I decided to change the oil since technically it's been a year, and I want to start fresh and make sure everything is as it should be...

So, here we go. Oil change done tonight... A couple observations. 1. I notice the oil filter has now been updated. FL-2087 this is the same oil filter used in the new GT500 from my understanding. I was curious on why the change... 2. I seen a lot of guys using tin foil to make some sort of funnel for the oil coming out of the filter. I just threaded the canister all the way out and held it in place while it drained out. All the oil went straight down into the pan easy, peasy no mess.

OK, onto my concerns...

1. (See Picture) Inside the filter canister there is a stem to seat the filter onto. My stem isn't tight. It kind of wiggles around. Normal?

2. I assume if the canister threads back in with normal resistance then the filter has properly seated into place? It's kind of hard to tell and the way my stem wiggles around it didn't hold the filter perfectly straight up and down... Cause for concern?

3. (See Picture) My oil catch pan and the old oil that came out. For only 30 miles being on the car the oil that came out was fairly clean, but as you can see from the picture there was a decent amount of metallic particles in the oil. Normal? Should I be concerned?

4. I put 10 quarts in, started her up, idled for a bit and rev'd up to 2000rpm. Let it back to idle for a bit more then shut down. Oil level is at the top of the hash marks on the dip stick. (measured after the car was turned off and waited a bit to let everything settle.) I noticed my oil pressure at idle was a little under 8 BAR, is this normal? I couldn't remember what it sat at before the change...?

That's it for questions, I appreciate any insights here. My OCD is a tough thing to live with when you have a car this nice, lol...

I had my break-in oil changed at the dealer a couple of days ago, so I cannot comment on the quirks of the oil filter. I did have them run the used oil thru a strainer while I watched and give me the used oil filter to examine. Yes, it had tiny amounts of tiny metal bits, expected from breaking in the engine. My concern would have been larger bits, flakes or indications of shaving or galling, gasket material or any amount of any liquid other than oil.

My brother has been a mechanic since high school and he is the Rainman of random automotive stuff. I followed his break-in advice to the letter. I kept the car under 4K rpm for the first 1000 miles, since I drove it over 1000 miles to get it home, I set a timer and shifted gears and changed speeds to vary RPM and work load on the engine. I stopped for gas or meals and let the car cool down for an hour before heading out to let it heat cycle as well. The car did not use a drop of oil on the trip.

I might take his advice and do an oil sample test every oil change just to get an idea how long this thing will live happily.

Regarding your questions about the oil filter, yes it wiggles on the stem in the housing. I completed my first oil change a few weeks ago and noticed the same thing. In the manual it seems to suggest seating the oil filter in place on the little post inside the assembly on the engine-side. I did the same thing as you however and had similar concerns. But since the oil filter housing screwed on easily, my thought is that the oil filter seated properly since there would be resistance if it was off center and not seated on the little post on the engine-side. Clearances are probably tight and you would have to crush the filter to some degree to get the housing flush with the engine if it wasn't seated.

As far as oil pressure goes on cold start mine is around 125 PSI and then drops to around 50 on warm idle and around 100 at warm full throttle.

In terms of metal flakes I did not notice any in my first oil change but I also did not shine a light to go looking for them so I cannot be sure they were absent.

I have this type of oil filter canister for about 9 years. That stem wiggles and is not an issue.
