That 4.09 is tempting...hate to lose the 3.31 MPG but...would give the the ol' Coyote a kick in the ass it needs.

Thanks! That means a lot coming from someone with a GT350. So jealous!
I said the same thing to Voodoo when I saw his car a week ago. He said the same about my GT.:headbang:

Im a gearing noob. Why is this beneficial/how does it differ over my 3.73.

Same question applies to all other available gears for our cars, 3.15/3.31/3.55/3.73..
The higher numerical gear will have greater torque multiplication, thus allowing the car to accelerate quicker. However that is if you have optimum traction. Most people actually go slower when going to a more aggressive gear setup. But on the street the added torque feels faster cause the car revs quite a bit faster and blowing the tires away gives the impression of being fast too. A great mod if your looking to optimize the feel of fast. But very over rated in terms of really going fast, unless you are hooking it up properly. Seen many a races were two of the same cars are alike and A has all the bolts ons and 4.10s and B car has all the bolt ons and 3.27 gears. B walks A and the driver can't figure it out, lol.

i can't actually imagine any more than the stock 3.73's. it's already blowing through gears as is. My old GTO was significantly longer legged. had a T56 and 3.46 gears in a Dana-IRS rear, 4th gear lasted till 143mph. on my 3.31 equipped '13 GT, 4th ran out at like what 125? 4th on a 3.73 coyote only hangs on till like 115.

any higher, and you'll be in 5th at the end of a 1/4 mile

Where the heck are you guys seeing any new Ford parts books?!?!?

All that's online are the 2014 and supplement catalogs.

M82 trans gearing has a lot to do with that, but yeah, you'd be running close.

I have a 2016 Gt350 the trans is geared different in the tremec 3160. I want more gearing. The 3.73 that we have stock is to long.

This find of the 4.09 gear dispels the rumor that the IRS housing would not accept a deeper gear than a 3.73. It is no surprise to me that Ford Performance is leading the way with deeper gears. They are probably working on 4:30 and 4:56 gears or something similar. Ford typically puts taller gears in their cars to achieve optimal gas mileage. The 4:09 gears should make the GT 350 feel like it has more low RPM torque. 4:56 gears should make it feel like a torque beast.

More mechanical advantage.

At any given gear/engine-RPM you move slower but get there quicker. *IF* you have traction.

Without getting into tech mumbo jumbo- I'll just assume you've ridden a mountain bike at some point in your childhood (Who hasn't?)

A lower number gear (3.1 or 3.3) would be like riding your mountain bike from a stop in 12th gear. You start a bit slow and have to pedal a long time to reach the point where its comfortable pedaling. You don't accelerate very fast, but while moving your pedaling is pretty comfortable.

A high number gear (3.7 or 4.1) is more like riding a bike in 2nd gear. Very easy to start and you might even pop a wheelie but eventually your legs are spinning super fast but you're not going very fast.

In this hypothetical scenario the speed of your legs would be the cars RPMS, with a 4.1 rear gear you will rev out gears very quickly with lots of acceleration but it requires a lot of shifting and the top speed would be less. With a 3.15 gear the acceleration isn't great but you have real long gears and at highway speeds the engine is pedaling nice and slow which is great for gas mileage.

Hope that helps.
