FINALLY A GEAR FOR THE IRS!!

Today during lunch I was going through the Ford performance parts catalog and I found a 4.01/4.10 Gear!!!!! Hopefully a 4.30 and 4.56 will follow. But it's still good news for us Naturally aspirated guys.

Lol. I've run 4.56 and 5.13s in my fox body. I've been waiting for 4.10 and hopefully 4.30 for my shelby

Im a gearing noob. Why is this beneficial/how does it differ over my 3.73.

Same question applies to all other available gears for our cars, 3.15/3.31/3.55/3.73..

The lower 4.10 is a lower gear then a 3.55 etc. (higher number) the gear the more lower acceleration you'll have. But you'll lose top end. A 3.73 will get you there quicker but a 3.15 will take longer to get there but will have more top end. Example would be say your 0-60 with a 3.15 gear is 5 seconds. A 3.73 or 4.10 gear could get you to 0-60 in say 4 seconds. But it will run out of steam say in top end because the motor is working harder at its redline. In drag racing you want to cross the finish line at your peak rpm. To do this you can swap gears or tire diameter. Same as tires. The shorter the tire the more acceleration you'll have. The taller the tire the more top end. Think of a 10speed bike when you start out in a low gear compare to a higher gear.

shorter rear end gear makes quicker acceleration through your other gears. Think of it like a 10 speed bike when you switch main cogs and use gears 1-5 vs 6-10. So on a 3.73 car where you hit 60 in 2nd you might only reach like 55 in 2nd with a 4.10. ( I don't know the exact math on it just trying to help explain it )

If you're staying NA this will help make your car quicker. If you plan on going FI you're going to just blow through tires by going to a 4.10.

no you're not. you just need a new diff housing. FR3Z-4026-B also works (if you don't want to spend the money on a torsen)
