The guy who puts 'GT' badges on a non-GT Mustang also probably stuff objects down the front of his pants to misrepresent the size of his package. #falseadvertising

I'm planning on putting GT-A badges from 1967 on my '16 when I get it, I like the retro vibe, I'm old. It is a GT and has an automatic so no false advertising.

But wait... Do you own a 2015+ GT? Or still driving around the V6 and Cherokee?
Because I don't own one does not mean I can't afford one (I'm actually waiting for the 2018MY). Plus I'm not over here saying my Overland Grand Cherokee is an exclusive SUV (which by the way was a $38,000 Jeep in 2002). The GT is not different, you don't have to be in an elite caste to get one especially since 2015 GTs are popping up well under $30,000.. It's a mass produced consumer sports car that isn't winning any industry awards and will be have little to no value in about 15 years. Exclusive cars usually don't fall into that category.

Who do you think is buying up all these stock GT grilles?

Go to a car event sometime with new Mustangs. You'll see what appears to be a line of Mustang GTs based on the grilles. But then you'll notice that 6 of those 7 are lacking heat extractors on the hood, and are actually Ecoboosts.

Fair question. I just think it is sad and pathetic. They are certainly free to do it.

Yeah, you'll see all kinds of fakes out there. This happens with any car make that offers the same car in many different trim levels. I do notice the fake mustangs more because I've always owned one.

As bad as the fake badging is, a lot of the other exterior mods are worse; giant spoilers, the 3-4 fake, circular vents along the side that look like they're off an Olds, giant scoops, crazy camber, lighting, etc. People just tend to have more ambition than taste.

It's simple really. Half the world wants to be the other half.

A few years ago I was looking at 05-09 GT mustangs, found one in the paper that was cheaper than normal. So I decided to drive down there to take a gander. Well it was actually a V6. The former owner did a pretty good job cloning a GT, as the GT grill lamps were on there, GT badges on the side, GT style rims, even a GT bumper with duel exhaust. However, He left the pony emblem on the trunk.

Some GT exhausts, like the one a a 5.0 I heard today, sounds so raspy it sounds like a 4-banger. He asked me what exhaust I had because he hated his (which was a Ford Racing, apparently). And I said... well, it's loud! Haha.

It seems silly to me to do with an ecoboost, depending on how far you take it... I guess if you're just rebadging the trunklid, it's probably not too much effort, but I'd think most people who understand the difference between a "regular" Mustang and a GT would be able to call BS pretty quickly in that case.

The GT has actually won a couple COTY awards that I've seen, but in any case, I agree it's not exclusive. I don't know what that has to do with the topic at hand, though...

I took a coworker to lunch in my car today and we saw another S550 in the parking lot that was either an EB or a V6. I didn't get that good a look at it. He asked me how I knew it wasn't a GT and I told him about the side badges, different grille, different wheels, different trunk emblem, etc. that denote the external differences between the trim levels. His lack of knowledge about the car just goes to support what the other folks in here are saying about the general public not knowing any difference between most cars. To the majority of people out there, a Mustang is a Mustang and they all viciously murder crowds of people at car meets (sorry, I had to). :D

If someone wants to put a "GT" on their V6, it doesn't bother me. Instead, I should probably feel sorry for them because they lack self-confidence or don't get enough enjoyment from the vehicle they actually own and instead have to pretend to have something they don't.

This topic reminded me of a similar situation. My brother and I had a friend in high school who was always telling us about these famous south Florida sports athletes that his older sister was dating. Whenever we confronted him about it and asked to meet these guys, who included ice hockey and football players, the kid would always then tell us that his sister had dumped them and wasn't seeing anyone at the moment. Seriously, if you feel the mental need to lie to people like that in order to make yourself appear more well off or better connected than everyone else, then I really do feel sorry for you.
