I'd seen that video -- I hadn't paid close attention to the few seconds discussing the reduction of pressure under-hood -- but I still maintain that putting pressure into the engine bay in the first place is to provide cooling air for the radiator -- so while it reduces lift, it also allows heat to exit post-radiator as well.
You actually want to reduce pressure to increase flow, which is what provides the cooling. When pressure builds up there is a force preventing air from entering the engine bay, which will cause higher underhood temps. If you reduce that pressure with proper ventilation then you will have more air flowing THROUGH the radiator where you want it rather than creating a high pressure zone to force the air around the grilles.

OK -- just FYI -- I do understand some basic aerodynamics, have some seat time in airplanes (not a ton, but have have some solo time, etc.)

That's why the opening in the grill is as small as it is -- it's balanced by the vents in the hood. The reason the grill has an opening at all is to let the air in -- that's my point.

Right but don't forget the smaller grille opening has a complimentary one on the bottom of the bumper (which is where most modern cars get their cooling air from anyway) as well as under the vehicle.

I mean, I doubt they really do much if that's what we're getting at but the principles are fairly sound.

It would make sense to increase speed-of-air on the outside of the engine bay and have openings there -- as they've done -- but if the airspeed nets out higher above the car versus on the sides or beneath it, you have problems with high speed lift -- hence side vents on the GT350, Corvette, etc.

I don't think lift will ever be an issue with a mustang. And the low pressure zone on the side will be similar to top, they are displacing the free air stream in a similar fashion. The low pressure will help "suck out" the flow from the vents though. (And attenuate lift)

Lift will never be an issue with my Mustang. I will seldom have it over 120 or so -- people with FI, or who are into mile racing and such -- maybe. The vents make sense where they are because it evacuates air where it has a mechanical advantage relative to the hinges in the hood, and is up and behind the radiator -- I have no idea what the airflow looks like from the grill up through the vents -- but whatever -- not one part of the last several posts has much to do with fake GT's. If someone wants to give me a lesson in aerodynamics, they can PM me about it if they like. But since my car won't have lift issues, I don't really care either way.

I don't get it, rock watcha got. I have a V6 and would never put GT badges on it. It is what it is, and pretty good at that.

I think everyone should have at least one GT, GT-R, R, SS badge on your car. Leave em guessing!

who cares what somebody does to their car? If they want to look like a fool, let them.
