I think answers to this question will vary heavily based on with or without HP. Without HP, my Mach 1 isn't too bad with speed bumps. I sometimes have to take them very slowly, but I almost never have to take them at an angle. I would certainly clear a 2.5" bump. I'm not sure there are many...

At the risk of being pedantic, this technically isn't true. Larger brakes do generally provide more braking force... But it's just that you don't really need that extra force. You don't need anymore force from your braking system than is necessary to maximize the stopping force of your tires...

I may get some turned up noses for this suggestion, but I actually think your idea of using a permanent marker (or maybe more carefully chosen markers of a couple different colors) would make that scratch completely imperceptible to anyone who didn't know about it and/or who wasn't looking closely.
