Yesterday one of the guys at work was admiring my car and was telling me he has a friend that works at a nearby dealership, and their demo mustang says GT but it's got the ecoboost motor. He knew that shouldn't be correct, and it's odd that it would be that way at a dealer. Unless maybe someone had badge'd it GT and ended up trading.

So a few minutes later I'm cruising to my next destination and an orange "GT" passes by in the next lane. It was loud and revving and stuff. It sounded awful. There was no low end tone, and when he hit the gas and the RPM's were up it was blapping (might have just made that word up) in a way I couldn't imagine coming from a V8. As I was turning the other direction, I wondered if maybe that was an ecoboost or V6. Not dissing those cars at all, but in hindsight the tone coming from the pipes would have been more fitting for one of those engines. I didn't think to look for the 5.0 badges at the time, but the GT badge was there on the back. It also had black wheels, but I didn't see if they were the common performance pack wheels or the other black ones I've seen on some new ecoboost models.

Are people really doing this? I don't get the point, A kid did it in high school back in 96 with his 4 cylinder and we all thought it was dumb. Cosmetically, it was the nicest mustang in school though, and in hindsight maybe his dad was smart. Visually, all the coolness, and financially, none of the insurance cost..lol.

Honestly (and without trying to sound too douchey about it), as a GT owner who had to wait 20 years for the right combination of time, finances, and insurance rate to get one of a very few cars I've always wanted, I find it kind of annoying..almost like it cheapens the exclusivity of owning one.

Yes i believe it, people do this. People put Nismo on Nissan Sentras and regular Zs. Same with people putting GT350 on a GT. LOL fake GT. IMO you should never badge a car that isn't what it really is. Just wait and buy the one you want instead of badging. I see people putting STI on regular WRX's and 3speed on non turbos its funny. Hellcat badge on regular R/t Challengers SMH.

Exclusivity of owning a car that sells in tens of thousands ? C'mon... And now pretty much everybody outside US can have and they aren't exactly expensive...

There is lots of people doing dumb stuff to their cars, some of the "cosmetic" mods on this forum are worse than slapping GT badge on Ecoboost.

Others beat me to it, but there's no exclusivity with owning a Mustang GT. Do you enjoy your car? Are you happy when you press the gas pedal and get the rumbly sounds and acceleration you want? If so...just move on man, it'll be alright. :gossip:

I see tons of cosmetic mods on cars all over that looks completely ridiculous, for sure.

Like I said, I don't mean to sound douchey and I don't think of a GT as exclusive in the way cruising around in a lambo would be, but of the mustangs on the road, there are less GT's. I dunno. Maybe I just AM douchey..lol. I just find it annoying and felt like venting. I think people should be proud of what they have. The ecoboosts are cool. They're really for a whole other demographic as far as I'm concerned, and that's fine. No need to mask it.

There's seriously nothing exclusive about owning a GT.
But wait... Do you own a 2015+ GT? Or still driving around the V6 and Cherokee?

And then there are those of us who'd prefer to debadge for the opposite effect, except damn Ford and their drilled holes underneath the badges.

Don't let it get to you OP. Mustang is a volume seller, kinda like Accords & Camry's. Anybody and their grandma can buy one if they like the looks. Who are we to say what others can/can't do to their car? Thank goodness it's a volume seller though. Mustang was never discontinued unlike Camaro/Firebird. Sure, the V8 may cost a little more... but it's only a check of an option box.

+1. When I owned my '07 Mustang GT I ordered it with no rear spoiler and painted wheels instead of flashy chrome wheels. Replaced the GT badges with tribar pony emblems from the V6 Pony Package. Swapped the front grill & big GT foglamps with the grill from the V6 Pony Package with the much smaller foglamps. And, installed a Vortech supercharger and supporting mods. It was priceless at the dragstrip to run 11's in the 1/4 mile and have people follow me back to the pits wondering how they got beat by what they thought was a V6 Mustang. I love a wolf in sheep's clothing!
