Hi all. I disconnected my battery the other day to swap steering wheels, and it didn't dawn on me today when I took it in for an inspection that I should have driven it a while beforehand. Does anyone know how many miles I will have to put on it before bringing it back in? And is it miles or actually drive cycles that I have to go through? I've never failed an inspection for anything before so I've never had to think about this stuff.

Also, even though my 93 tune doesn't affect emissions (reconfirmed with tuner today), he suggested I flash it back to stock before bringing it back just in case. I suppose it can't hurt, but is that really necessary, or can I just put miles on it?

I've passed emissions on a 93 tune for years, it's not a problem.

Just go for a nice drive, maybe an hour or so, it will pass.

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking too. Plus if every time I have an inspection coming up I have to flash back to stock, then I assume I'd have to then put more miles and drive cycles on the car afterwards and before going for an inspection, no? I don't daily drive my car, so it takes a while to put any significant mileage on it. I know it's only once a year, but seems like kind of a pain to do it that way.

use a scanner, drive until all emissions monitors say ready, do some traffic, some highway, and some around town.

usually 50 miles or so, NY can be tough but you should be fine.

This.

Your tune wont be an issue unless your O2s are shut off. Hookup a scanner and drive until they are all ready. Not sure how it is out there but here you are allowed 2 "Not ready" and still pass.

Yea, no O2s are shut off in my tune. My car is mostly stock except for the tune, catback, and Airaid CAI which doesn't require a tune. So I'm pretty confident it just had to do with me disconnecting the battery the other day and not driving it since then until today.

You might have issues with O2 sensors shut off in NY, I’m not sure though. Did it pass before on this tune?

The last inspection was done prior to the tune. My O2 sensors are not shut off on my current tune. But yes, in NY I'm sure anyone with O2 sensors off would not pass.

Yea drive around a little, you can check the status with a scanner and you’ll be good to go.

Went for a drive this morning on the 93 tune. I went highway and stop and go traffic, and tried to do the specific drive cycles recommended by Ford for my car, although I'm not certain I did them exactly as instructed in the document. I checked it multiple times with two different code readers and both are saying everything is in READY except for both O2 sensor monitors and the heated catalyst monitor. I emailed my tuner and asked him to double check my tune file to.see.if these things were turned of, maybe accidentally. I'm waiting to hear back.

Or maybe I just still didn't drive it long enough, or maybe I didn't do the drive cycle correctly. Idk...

Well???? How long did you drive for?

Regardless, it wasn't long enough. Get back out there.

About 70 miles or so. Guess I have more driving to do. Not the worst thing in the world since I love driving the car lol. But I'm wondering if it's just driving or if I really need to nail those drive cycles, which can be a pain out in the street. It's not always possible to accelerate from 0-65, coast down to 40, then back up to 65, coast down to 40 etc, and do all that 5 times.

I'm also getting suspicious of the tune now with all the talk of the O2 sensors, and it just so happens to be those couple things that remain not ready when everything else is good to go.
