My gt is my DD as long as weather permits, i love the car, love the super loud exhaust, love the convertible… it replaced a 2017 ecoboost pp, with a bose system, i liked that system, but in the gt, i don’t ‘love’ the stereo, from what ive read here, and listened in my car.. i understand subwoofer and system is not great quality. I am going to a local stereo place and seeing what he thinks we should do.
Ive seen the jl subwoofer replacement, but they dont make them for the vert. So we talked of redoing the subwoofer and replacing some speakers. He seemed to think a good portion of my complaint could be addressed with the sub upgrade.

Ill swing it by this week to “listen with him” and get his suggestions…

my car, being a ragtop, and seeing as i drive in track exhaust mode always, and the top is down whenever the sun shines. So i understand my audio quality is somewhat hampered. But if i can upgrade for better, louder sound, without crazy expensive equipment, id really consider the upgrade.

given the choice, id rather retain and reuse the existing mounted sub enclosure and not want to toss another box back their to save on trunk room.

for those of you who have done this…
I am thinking/guessing 1000-1500?
Does that sound about right? Or am i way off?

im thinking nothing drastic, no stereo replacement but i just want a little more clear volume. probably to compensate for driving but

What should i expect the cost to pay to have someone do this?

US $1000-$1500 is about right for a simple sub upgrade provided you are willing to compromise a bit on boot space and SQ.

I imagine that because it is a convertible some of the installs you’ve seen in the coupe chassis may not be able to be employed.

In respect to what you get for your money, here’s an example of what you can install in a convertible mustang with… let’s say ten times the money ($10000). Expect that half to 2/3 of the money went into the install and tuning of the sound system.

A lot of us have spent even more on this with our car audio to get something absolutely amazing!

for $1500 you could expect to install a sound system which is quite close to the OEM, with about twice the subwoofer volume, which I suspect is where the convertible chassis finds hard to produce with the OEM system.

Disable your center speaker first. Either cut the wire or unplug it under the grille. (There are threads on this.)
Also turn down the bass level to almost off.
Afterward, try both Stereo and Surround modes to find your preference.

Free mod. The B&O stereo is acceptable after this.

Many of us started out thinking of replacing the B&O system cheaply. The more we strive for better sound, the more money we put into it. $1500 is more than enough for a subwoofer added with an amp. Start talking about replacing all the other speakers, adding DSP, and amps tend to add significantly to the cost. The quest for okay sound can be done cheaply, the request for great sound can not be done cheaply. :)

This is what happens when you start wanting the B&O system to sound great :)

I had the premium w/o the B&O sub and disabled the amp and center speaker, rewired a new 6 channel amp and new Alpine R series speakers following instructions found in this group, added a Punch 12" sub into an enclosure I made myself and am very happy with the result.

Hey! Have you got a thread or some pics of your install? I’d love to see how it all turned out. Looks like those components would be excellent ingredients for an epic soun d system :muscle:

Hi, it is buried somewhere in the Infortainment threat. I got a lot of my ideas from Evolv, Stang, Cathul. Amps are mounted in the spare tire well. Let me see if I can find pictures.
