Engine On Exit Horn

I know it is a first world problem, but taking the fob out of my pocket is a pain and having to do so somewhat defeats the purpose of the intelligent key w/push start.

I find it easier to not fully close the door.

Doesn't that make it easier for the local car thief too? :shrug:

Why not stop and restart instead of risk your $30-40k car to a car thief over what, 20 cents max in gas?

I get if its secure in your driveway and to get something out of the open garage or something with the car in sight or 5 sec run to get something from the counter; but I NEVER understand the logic these people going into the store leaving their car running. It boggles my mind. I've NEVER left my car idling and ran into a store, ever ever ever. That's just inviting a thief to try to steal it.

If the trip is that quick that you could leave the car running then your child/dog wont freeze or melt and there's no logical reason that it cannot be restarted in a minute or 2.

It's like watching the people fill their gas tank with the engine running despite all of the signs all over every station saying turn off your car and the very real danger with heat/spark around that amount of fuel and vapors. Human stupidity and laziness is sometimes very perplexing.

What I do is just leave one FOB inside the car all the time and problem all solved! It'll still lock normally when you touch the handle.

yeah I know it's a first world problem. The FOB is buried in my bag I don't normally take it out ever.

While you cant lock yourself out (unless a dead fob battery fluke), anyone else who comes and touches the handle can unlock it and steal with car now with the fob to restart the car too.

I agree, this is a first world problem that it is too much effort to lock and secure, and turn off and on, one's car. This is a mind boggling discussion people actually risk their $30-40k vehicles to such chances over a 5 second convenience factor.

I keep my fob in my pocket. I stop almost every morning at the dumpster to throw away household trash and leave the engine running (much better for longevity). Close the door: beep beep. Then again in the evening when i stop at the mailboxes to get my mail; two more blows of the horn.

Nowhere am I risking my car being stolen but I do have a high annoyance factor with the horn each time. Is it a major issue? Nope. Does it impact you? Evidently not, so move along and let us bitch about our first-world issues with our first-world cars.

I guess? Not too worried about someone stealing my car while I am scraping the windows or checking the mail from 3 feet away.

Or in the case of the wife's vehicle, loading the snowboards while it is parked in the driveway.

What this thread is about is the horn honking when you leave the car while it is running - and how bloody annoying it is. Whether you only go 2 feet or 200 feet from the car is irrelevant.

If you have your FOB in pocket, the other in car, does it Honk when exiting the car with motor running?

Thought it wasn't possible to lock FOBs inside of car...This is interesting information.

Actually, that's something I've been wondering about.

Where I drive, there can be a lot of aggressive panhandlers who'll walk between cars stopped at red lights begging for change. I've always just locked my doors and ignored them while they knock on the windows or whatever, but... can't they just open the doors up if I'm inside with the key fob?

No the key detects that it is inside so it won't allow anyone to unlock the doors from outside unless they have another key fob on them. Same goes for locking the doors with the key inside without a key fob in your pocket or on your person.

if you leave your keyfob in the car you cant lock the car. Id think if the car is running and locked while youre in it with the fob the doors will remain locked.
