I'm about to buy a 2015 Mustang and I'm really torn on which model, so hoping you all can enlighten me. I've driven the 2.0 ecoboost and was impressed for a focus and escape, but will it suit me for a mustang.

My fears are buying the GT and finding out the Ecoboost can be tuned to 350hp and still get way better gas mileage than the GT. So far the pros of the GT are horsepower and sound...cons are more cost and worse gas mileage. The ecoboost pros are lighter weight, gas mileage, still decent power...cons are less horsepower, questionable sound, and will it really feel like a muscle car.

Second big issue is should I get cloth or leather. I like cloth but the 2014 Mustang cloth was horrible. Does anyone know if the 2015 seat are better and HOW MUCH better.

Help me decide. :)

Wait for the cars to hit showrooms and decide after you've test driven the various models. Until then you are just guessing.

As for will it feel like a muscle car, it's going to feel like a very nice car either way and the weight it going to feel about the same. The difference obviously is the sound and what you see under the hood. For many that doesn't matter.

I myself will be test driving both before deciding what to buy.

Help me decide. :)
There are a few massive threads about this...might want to read up on them.

And there is no real answer till you drive both.

Ecoboost for me. My current car is an 07 Grand Cherokee Hemi, and I'm really looking forward to doubling my gas mileage with the EB.

Depends on where you are financially imo. The EB is a logical choice when money comes into play: less fuel consumption, ease of tuning (assumed), lower sticker. The GT isn't a choice that's made for logical reasons. If you can afford it then that's what I'd get. No substitute in the end for me, but preferences vary.

The option structure is also an annoyance to me. The performance package doesn't really feel like value to me on either car. For 2 or 2.5K you could get a quality coilover setup that would make the Ford performance package look silly. It's especially true on the v8 for me, as there is no way in hell I would want 3.73 gearing, but that's just me.

The problem is that Ford seems to have intentionally harnessed the lower models with ugly pieces that you simply want rid of. For example the interior looks downright goofy with three vents, but very nice with the dual gauges, and the base wheel options are even worse than the black performance package wheels. The only wheels that look even half decent are the GT PP wheels if you repainted them, and the optional 19x8.5 premium paint wheels on the GT, and they cost 1K as an optional upgrade which is as much as they would cost aftermarket.

Personally I don't mind the ugly base wheels all that much, as I would simply use them to mount a set of winter tires and get something else that looks better for the summer tires.

If the GT where closer to the Ecoboost in price, I would consider it, but I honestly hate the base GT interior with those three goofy registers and bland looking aluminum finish.

I will need to see the cars in person and drive them before I can make a decision. Even then, I don't think there is an option I really truly like. If I could get a $500 option to upgrade the dash, and leave out the rest of the performance package, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

It depends on what your goals are with the car.

Split the difference, save cash; V6. Go the Feshta route and mod it.

I love the way the Coyote sounds, if they put a flat plane crank in it I will probably lose all control and run to the dealership crying "TAKE MY MONEY PLEASE!" Until then, I like the way the V6 sounds.

When you see that EB on an engine stand it appears to be a dainty sort of thing. Yes, I know metallurgy and engineering have come a long way, but that piston looks like something from a Formula 1 engine from a decade ago and with 4 valve cylinder heads you wonder where does all the heat go? There just isn't a lot of surface to transfer heat from the valves back into the head. Under the hood all that heat cooks away at the life of rubber seals and you start having BMW'ish problems.

Ford does tons more durability testing than BMW, but the point is, that engine is a highly stressed little thing and simple usually lasts longer and takes abuse better.

Depends on what you are looking for out of the car, but the brakes alone are worth the price of the V8 performance package. Everything else is just a bonus.

Pretty sure that if you tune the EB to 350HP you won't be getting great gas mileage. ...and you'd still be 85HP behind the GT, but with a problematic engine warranty.

The stock EB Mustang will have roughly the same performance and gas mileage of the current V6. Maybe a little quicker due to the extra torque, but I certainly don't see it being anywhere remotely close to GT performance level.

JMO: If you want a fast car, get a GT. If you want a fun DD get the EB.

It was a cost thing for me. If I had the money, I'd go GT premium but it's out of my reach. Was going for V6 but didn't offer a premium. So I went Ecoboost premium. I won't have the sound or power of the V8, but it's still an upgrade coming from an I4 Fusion with 175HP! Aftermarket should easily bump up the HP and torque. Even if it's just a bit.

Good points everyone! I will definitely get the performance package whichever model I choose. I have the money to get the GT, I guess my main concern was year in and out of 16 mpg city driving vs. 22 mpg. I'm leaning toward the Coyote GT for the simple reason it's a tried and tested tough motor...and of course sounds really mean. :)

I will definitely drive both models when they're available. Thank you all, you are awesome!
