Yeah they're doing the same thing BMW, PORSCHE, and Many Other High End Manufacturers have been doing for Years in a car that Costs Less than Half of Those Cars.

It is pretty cool tech actually, and I'm not sure why people seem to be upset about it. If it makes the car sound better than it otherwise would, then sweet, let's do it. If less growl is the main thing you sacrifice with fewer cylinders (besides the 100 hp obviously), and you can make up for it with cool sound tech, I see that as a selling point not a shortcoming.

Purists are going to compare it to say auto tuning for singers.

Newer cars get good enough mileage...I don't think this is necessary. It would be a nice option in other cars in Ford's lineup though.

Yep and its lame on those cars too. That's my Opinion. Don't get your feathers ruffled again.

The initial drive reviews have offered very mixed perspectives on the the EB, with some lauding its better weight balance and citing sharper handling relative to the GT, and others lamenting its lack of upper-rev grunt and weak exhaust note. How are you seeing it so far?
I have been following MustangG6 for quite some time. It is very informative and up to date with info on the S550. Just a quick background on me. I write a q&a column for MM&FF called yo ken. I am very familiar with the S550, as I do get some inside info before it is released.

With all do respect to the purist who love the 5.0 as do I. Some of your assumptions on what the EcoBoost can and can not due are wrong. The EcoBoost by no means is a bust. I can not name the sources so you will have to take my word on this. The info below comes from actual testing and a honest review on how the EcoBoost handles and feels.

Okay for the straight liners like my self (I am a drag racer even though my DD is an ST). The EcoBoost was tested with 3.73’s, a new down pipe (don’t know if it was catted or not), tuned and drag radials, it ran 12.50’s with a 6 speed manual. The 5.0 was also tested running 12.0”s with a tune and drag radials. I can not give you any trap speeds. I have no numbers for stock S550's but I assume they will be quicker than what has been posted. Typically when we test cars they are 2 to 3 tenths quicker when equip with a manual trans.

Now for the guys and gals that love the turns. EcoBoost PP 6 speed Manual - This is a subjective test, but a test from someone that has been around a road course many times and has tested not only every Mustang from the foxbody to the S197, but Camaro’s and Corvettes. His first word to me was WOW ! The best handle Mustang he has ever driven he tells me. Words like nimble, planted, surefooted were only the few of the praises he had for this car. You point it were you want and it goes there. You can power out of a turn with no surprises, the power is there and you forget you are in a 4 cylinder. This is a guy who loves the 5.0, but feels this one is a game changer. He did drive the 5.0 manual and it also handle great and pulled like a beast. On a longer type road course the 5.0 is the winner, but on a more technical and shorter course the EcoBoost has the edge. He can definitely feel the less weight over the front wheels and feels this makes the EcoBoost an outstanding performer.

I’m going out on a limb with this post and was told not to say anything, but all of this misinformation needed to be addressed and was driving me nuts. As you can see from my profile I drive a ST and I’m not a young guy, I love the 5.0, but for a DD the ST is great fun and practical. Just to show you how much these cars respond to just a tune. My ST ran a 14.08@100 stock. With just a tune it ran 13.45@105. The EcoBoost will make much more power than the rated 310 along with a massive increase in torque with just tuning and a few bolt-ons The tuning community can not wait for this car to hit the streets. There are so many companies gearing up for this new platform for both the 5.0 and EcoBoost it will make everyone happy.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I needed to let some of you know that all is good. Both the EcoBoost and 5.0 are outstanding cars and both will have there place on the street and track. On a side note, I was also told the fit and finish along with the ride was also outstanding, very refined and well above its price point.

Nice post Ken. Glad to see a subjective view on it with real world testing from someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about.

I truly believe the EB is going to cater to those that want a car similar to an Audi A5 but still wanted a Mustang. It's going to be a great city/DD and if they can come out with some nice tunes for it, along with a better exhaust note and a way to pipe out that note in the cabin for long trips, I think many EB owners will be happy. I mean honestly, I should be going for an EB since I live in Arlington, VA which is all city/traffic and I still might get one and reading things like your comments makes me think the EB is just going to be such a better handling car. (Im so pissed that I can't get the gunmetal 19" rims and brushed dash vs the black rims and turned dash).

The GT is just going to appeal more to the muscle car purist/enthusiasts and that sound but like many articles have said, the EB is the future.

GT owners have to realize that the Mustang EB is still a sibling and you don't bash your siblings.

Play fighting is allowed though. ;)

Personally, for it's weight I find the 4 cylinder pointless in USA, and would probably skip to a BRZ, Miata, STI, Evo.. I'm almost positive an ecoboost 3.7 could have been heavily detuned for 350hp and easy gas mileage surpassing the 4. Yet, for Europe I'd say it does it's job..

I'm only worried about carbon build up that has been proven by one of Ford's tech and the issues that can cause in the long run. While not large spread ATM... who knows..

I'm not overly fond of using speakers to provide some of the exhaust note, but it wouldn't be a dealbreaker.

All of those lack a few of the '15 Mustang's positive traits, being:
1. Luxury (none of those are very comfortable cruisers... After sitting in the Mustang, the seats are more comfortable by a large margin. Really the only one I'd sit in for long periods of time. Not to mention the level of technology.)
2. Space (Space has never been a priority for Japanese cars... I'm 6'7" and I could do Yoga in a 2015 Mustang if I wanted to).
3. Even with the weight, it's still getting rave reviews on the handling (at least with the PP).

What I'm trying to say is that it's the best all-rounder of those you listed. It's the only one I'd want to commute in and the only one I'd feel comfortable in for long periods of time. I'm still waiting to test drive before I put a deposit down, and if the compromise is too much I probably won't buy one. However, I'm feeling pretty positive after reading the reviews.
