Considering one reviewer compared the Eco-Boost to an Audi A-5, I think it is a Success. That's pretty High Praise in My Opinion. The A-5 is a Fantastic Car and One I had been considering for my next car. But an A-5 optioned close to how I want my Eco-Boost would run $42,250 and still doesn't offer several features that the Mustang has included in the Premium Trim like Heated and Cooled Seats (Heated Seats are a $500 Option on the Audi) BLISS, and Cross Traffic Alert, a Rear View Camera, an 8 Inch Touch Screen Infotainment Center, Push Button Start, Adjustable Drive Modes, and the Adjustable Steering Settings. The Eco-Boost optioned the way I want it comes in at $34,125 and Offers me the Redline Leather Interior (Audi only offers Black, Grey, Tan, and Brown)

I guess a Miata is not a sports car?

Nearly a million original purchasers would disagree with you, and so would I. The Miata is the definition of a sports car, the Mustang is not ( except for the 65-66 Shelby GT350 ).

-- Owner of three previous Mustangs ( 1st gen, Fox, S197 ), and one who is seriously considering trading my Focus ST on a '15!
Why stop at the Miata, what about the FRS and BRZ, the Honda S2000, Lotus Elise and Exige, and the BMW E30 M3. All by the very definition, sports cars.

The idea that a 4 banger doesn't belong in a sports car is pretty narrow minded.

I would have almost been ok with "4 bangers don't belong in muscle cars, because 'MURICA!" but the Mustang is not a muscle car and it has a rather long, and lengthy history of not only 4 bangers being in them but turboed ones too with the SVO and Turbo GT's.

Frankly, I think the engine is brilliant, I think the chassis it is settled with is where my disappointment lies.

If they offered the V6 with PP and Premium Package I'd prefer it over the EB (based on my impression from reviews, and from my feelings toward the engine in my GTI compared to my 350Z). I therefore chose, "Some flaws but a great value".

I do think it will be a great engine, but I wish it pulled more strongly up top instead of falling on its face. I'm not a huge fan of the turbo-4 exhaust note either. The fuel economy is great though, as is the performance overall. The subjective aspects just don't quite do it for me.

Agreed. I said it in that thread where they compared it to the A5...that's a big complement.

And like you said, you can't even get near what you get in the Mustang in what an A5 charges.

I'm so on the fence...can't wait to test drive these things. I just wish I could get the PP but without the damn ugly wheels and ugly dash.

I Agree. I gave up on the Performance Package for two reasons. First being those Black Wheels. I thought about having them refinished in Gunmetal but the cost would be ridiculous, and I've really come to like the 18" Foundry wheels better anyway. Secondly, Although I Really Do Still want the Center Gages, I have come to prefer the Brushed Aluminum over the Engine Turned Dash, and the Gages can be accessed through the Driver Information Center anyway. I think the Standard Suspension setup will be fine for me as I rarely Drive that hard anyway, and going from My accord Coupe to the S-550 is going to be like Night and Day as it is.

LOL you and I have the same taste. I love the premium dash.

I just wish we could get the 19" optional wheels with the EB Premium.

Don't understand why the EB base gets an optional 19" wheel option but the Premium doesn't. That' might be a typo/mistake.

If I get the EB I'm going to press hard for the dealer to get me the 19" rims somehow.

My only concern(s) with the EB are the noise/sound (reviewers say the hum is annoying) and the weight. I have this feeling that in the 16' they are going to resolve the weight some and do something with the noise.

I agree that it's silly to say sports cars can't have 4s; however, I'd hardly call Mustang's history with the 4 cyl. long and lengthy. The SVO is just a blip in a 50 year time line...a cool one, but a blip nevertheless.

I would! 4 cyl Mustangs have a 20 year history ( 1974 thru 1993 ). Although my '88 2.3L auto was in no way a "sports car"! I enjoyed it for what is was -- and because it was the newest used car I had owned up to that point!

Well you can't view it as their history with Mustangs/4 cylinders. It's more Ford's history with EB/4 and they have a pretty good history.

IMO a 4 banger has no place in a sports car (ok for ecobox Toyota Yaris).
Wait, my 1966 MGB wasn't a sports car? Guess my buddy's 1970 FIAT 124 Spider wasn't one either. Oh, noes!

The beauty of the EB is that you'll be able to tune it, 400bhp+ here we come - and the V6 is just a 6, no big gains that you can easily tap into.

Why would you choose a 4 cyl turbo that weighs basically the same as a V6 and uses the same amount of fuel in real world driving (and worse in hardcore driving). When I go FI on my V6, bye bye ecoboost I4 in all respects. It will eat GT PP for breakfast for $10-15K less! Why would you not want a V6 in a Miata if it weighed the same?

Nothing fun yet
I'm not going to pretend that an EB was ever in the cards for me, but my impression so far is that it's kind of a bust:

The torque curve drops off at 5k RPM.

Gas mileage is not impressive enough and the mandatory 93 octane eliminates whatever gasoline savings you would get anyway.

The heavily altered and amplified engine noise can't be turned off and is tied to the stereo fuse.

Still a pretty heavy car.

Grille isn't nearly as good looking as the GTs.

I think in the long run an EB is going to cost the same as a GT to drive and you won't get the sweet sweet sound of the small block V8, or the fangs in the grill that add an aesthetic element of dominance to the front.

I can't imagine buying an EB over the GT. Just my opinion.
