E85 Testing Procedure

I take a sample from the pump : I fill a 12 oz. glass bottle. Then at home I suck up the E85 w/ a 20 cc syringe and squirt it into the test container at home (after I fill it w/ H2O to the low line) until full. No muss, no fuss.

So you fill up and test after? or you buy .50 worth and test at home and return to fill up if it’s quality? That’s the thing, I don’t want a tank full or even 5 gallon jug if it’s not 80+. Trying to figure out how to only get a small amount while standing at the pump and properly testing it is what makes things a pain in the ass.

I keep a bottle from pure leaf tea (big enough I can fit the nozzle in it and don't worry about spilling) and all my other stuff (high quality h2o, tube, rags) in a small lunch box in the car and pump a enough into the bottle and then from there I will pour it in my test tube.

I fill the test bottle with water at home and bring a small reusable container to the gas station. Pump a small amount into the container and get a nice easy pour into the test bottle. Takes very little time.

I test every fill (also don’t drive the car much at all) but I’m super fortunate to have an actual E85 pump (not flex fuel) 1 mile from home. And I get this quality year round.

Probably but you should have seen me determined to trickle fuel straight from the pump nozzle into the test bottle. It was a damn mess.

I squirt a little fuel in a 20oz Gatorade bottle then use a pipette from the Fuel-It kit to add to the tester.

Empty the Gatorade bottle into the car using the tube that should be in your spare tire area.

If it tests poorly, you've bought .07¢ worth and that amount isn't going to bother your car any.

Fortunately, Pearson fuels is really consistent here in NorCal and tests at 90% all year.
