E85 Testing Procedure

I wondering for those of you who test regularly what is your at the pump procedure? I have one of the small bottles I fill to the line with water but am still trying to figure out how to discretely and with out spilling fuel all over me and the ground add a little to the bottle to get it right to the fill line in order to get an accurate test result. Forget about modulating the pump handle, most here are all on or all off. Do you bring a cup or something to put .25 worth in to test before committing to a tank full? A eye dropper? A post I saw online recently of a guy getting a tank full of E15 from an E85 pump has me wanting to test more often.

I bring the test bottle filled with the correct amount of water. I will then fill ONE jug (5-5.5gal) of Ethanol. I’ll test that sample with an 8” long Pipette. If it’s over 73%, I fill my remaining 7-9 jugs I bring with me. If it’s under, the 5-5.5gal jug is used in my other vehicles (diluted obviously)…….

I bring a small empty clean 20oz gatorade bottle to put a little fuel in, and a couple syringes for water and gas.

The 20oz gatorade bottle is big enough to fill with a little pump gas without making a mess and small enough that I can get the syringe to the liquid without filling very much.

Bring a small container to the track. This is what I use. It doesn’t take much. What you see in the container in the pic is actually more than what is needed to conduct the test.

I have 4-5 E85 stations within 10 miles of me. Put a few oz in my electronic tester and check content. 77+ % I fill up.

I bring a small empty clean gatorade bottle to put a little fuel in, a water bottle with water, and two syringes for water and gas. Sometimes I'll just put the right amout of water in the testing vial ahead of time so I only need something to put the gas in and a syringe for that.

The gatorade bottle is big enough to fill with a little pump gas without making a mess and small enough that I can get the syringe to the liquid without filling very much.

When I'm done I'll splash the gas on the concrete - its not great but it evaporates quickly and there's no practical way to get it back into the tank.

I was thinking a 10ml syringe woukd do it but looking at this test bottle I think it’s a good bit more than 10ml. Do you use single use syringes or do they hold up to fuel and can be reused?

I mean, I can't tell how many ml of gas your tester needs. I reuse syringes.

I carry a bottle of purified water with my test bottle. Then use the filler tube from the trunk to avoid spillage. Get as close as I can and make sure it’s above 80%. Bottle tests are never 100% accurate so I just test to make sure it’s clear and not dogshit content like 75 or below

70-75% is badass AF. 85 over 75% gets you DOGSHIT. NO ADVANTAGE. NO BENEFIT. NO MORE POWER. DOGSHIT.

Probably but you should have seen me determined to trickle fuel straight from the pump nozzle into the test bottle. It was a damn mess.

haha that's what I do everytime. I use 1 of those cheap red funnesl from harbor freight and trickle it in straight from the pump

I fill the test bottle with water at home and bring a small reusable container to the gas station. Pump a small amount into the container and get a nice easy pour into the test bottle. Takes very little time.

I test every fill (also don’t drive the car much at all) but I’m super fortunate to have an actual E85 pump (not flex fuel) 1 mile from home. And I get this quality year round.

I take a sample from the pump : I fill a 12 oz. glass bottle. Then at home I suck up the E85 w/ a 20 cc syringe and squirt it into the test container at home (after I fill it w/ H2O to the low line) until full. No muss, no fuss.
