Driving experience: V6 --> V8

^^^I've had GT Mustangs with 289s, 4.6s, and Coyotes(2)... And my present 2015 Cyclone V-6 Mustang is quicker stock than all the others except the Coyotes. The 4.6s I had were pretty much trouble-free and had a wonderful grumble. But this stock Cyclone Mustang is quicker to the high end than either 4.6 I owned. As I've said before, the Cyclone is Ford's "Rodney Dangerfield's Motor"...you know, "I get no RESPECT"!

Yeah, haters gonna hate. The Cyclone is a tremendous engine.

There are many reasons for choosing one car over another. For many, one of those reasons is $. If someone can't afford a GT, why would they regret purchasing the best car available to them in their price range? ('best' is subjective of course) This wouldn't be seen as a regretful purchase. Considering what you get with the v6, it should be seen as a steal of a deal.

And saying that no GT owners regret their purchase is a little naive. They may not regret enjoying the sound and torque, but there will be some who regret the price they paid.

I would never buy a Pony car without a v8.

That being said the Coyote engine is a great platform,the V6 is nothing
but and average engine at best

Average is a very subjective term, dependent on what is being compared. The Cyclone performs pretty darn well for an "average" engine.

Well at first I wanted just a daily driver but after owning my v6 for a few months I got interested in the whole mustang culture and wanted to be in the v8 crowd. It seems like many v6 owners end up in my position and have a bit of regret and usually look into trading for a GT, but I’ve never seen a GT owner regret their purchase. I’d rather trade up for a car that I won’t regret. I’ll take a 2-5k hit I don’t care, I make decent money and I can afford all the monthly payments, I’m just curious how much they will give me for my current v6. Plus I do have a “you only live once” mentality, I’ve had too many close friends die at a young age (shot, heart attack, accidents) to make me think that I too might die someday lol. I’m just going to live for myself now while im single and have no kids. I make money every day anyway it’s not like im homeless.

This dealership has a no commission policy. And he did not influence my decision either. I wanted a V8 having ridden in 2013GT with a tune and exhaust note I was like :hail: I want one!!!

Maybe you have self confidence issues over this but I have a V6 and I dont regret it. I would never buy a performance car in a smaller engine offering, if performance is what i was mainly after. The mustang is a GREAT looking car, and I purchased one to put 20s on it and make it LOOK like I want it to. If I want to race around town Ill borrow my brothers gallardo, and when I do, im not thinking "Man what if I had a GT"

I agree I have a v6 and don't regret it, it is still an awesome looking car which is all I wanted plus I don't see in why he's asking this question if in his mind he's already made up his choice in going for the gt

Who cares if the next guy trades up or down for that matter? We all ( unless mommy and daddy bought the car ) pay for our own stuff. Sure the v8 is great but I'm sure we have a lot of v8 owners on here preaching v8 or nothing cause they have small man syndrome. Ever see a ridiculous lifted truck and then a 5' guy hops out of the car.Same shit in my eyes when I see people bash the v6 or 4 banger cause it's not a coyote.

V8's are obviously the way to go if you are performance orientated for sure, no arguing that. Enjoy your car brother:cheers:

A valid point, however, a 2009 Mustang GT was wildly underpowered compared to GMs v8 offerings of the time. In fact, back in 2005 when I was new car shopping, the 100hp gap between the GTO and the Mustang is why my butt ended up in the GTO instead.

I kinda feel that the whole point that the v6 has as much horsepower as a 2009 GT just magnifies the point that the 4.6 was just that much of an awful engine.

But was it really that much slower? If I recall correctly, the 2004 GTO was a high-13s, maybe very low 14s car. That may well have been a wake-up call for Ford.

By 2005/2006, while the GTO did about 13.2 or so in the 1/4 mile, the 2005 Mustang GT was maybe only 2-4 tenths slower.

I wasn't in the market for a car then, but, at the time, I really, REALLY wanted to like the GTO. The idea of a bigger-displacement conventional pushrod engine appealed to me more than the modular at the time.

But, let's face it, the Mustang GT for 2005 onward looked WAY cooler (I had to agree with a friend who described the GTO to me as "an oversized Sunbird"). The GTO was just too plain looking.

As I recall as well, the GT started at $26K-$27K, whereas the GTO was around $34K.

I wanted to like the GTO. But, compared to the Mustang, bland styling, Premium fuel requirement, worse fuel economy (though improved for 2006), and an extra $7K or so on the price tag to get maybe an extra 0.3 seconds on the 1/4 mile made me ask "What was GM thinking??"

I was NOT a fan of Ford at the time, but I grudgingly had to say that overall, the new retro-Mustang of that era was way better bang for the buck.

Fact is that the V6 is by far a better daily driver then the V8 from a multitude of different ways to measure. this fact becomes exponentially more factual depending on the climate you live in.

True. From my perspective, anyways. I can't drive my GT-PP to work because the front splitter would get destroyed by the underground parking. I have no desire to drive my GT-PP in the winter because winter just trashes a car and I don't want to take a beater to track every summer.

So for me, a DD Mustang would be a V6. In fact, in planning to replace my currently aged DD, I considered a V6 Mustang, but given the 2+2 constraints, decided instead that I will just go with a Focus or an Escape. I especially don't want to be dragging a dual exhaust (and certainly not a modified, even more expensive exhaust) through a southern Ontario winter, either.

Different folks, different strokes, but the whole "go V8 or go home" thing is a little childish to me.
