What? ... you hit 90 MPH in first gear without hitting the rev-limiter? My data shows that with 3.31 gears in 1st gear the max speed is ~45 MPH at redline.

If this was a rental car, it probably has the stock 3.31 differential. The 3.55s are the "deeper gears" for a non-PP car with a 6-speed.
Oops, I forgot to mention I started in second gear.

^^^ 2nd gear at redline with 3.31 gears is ~68 MPH. If it had 3.55 gears it would do 64 MPH in 2nd gear.

Yeah. 90 mph in second seems like a tall tale to me.

Maybe you could do that in the Shelby GT500 (apparently the gears are insanely tall) but I can't see that being possible in 2nd.

Perhaps the ramp was extremely steep.

Reporting back!

I picked up the car yesterday at the dealership. I was nervous all week about driving the manual out of the lot since I hadn't driven one for quite a while. To my horror they were having a car show at the dealership! All types of amazing Fords, including at least 3 Bosses and some Cobras. There were about 15 people in chairs all around my car since it was in the shaded car port next to the showroom. All these old timers (real country folk) seemed to seriously like the car. "That's sharp, real sharp" they said. I had a few people chatting my ear off, but I was really just nervous about stalling that s.o.b. right there in front of them. My dealer gave me a quick rundown on the interior and then got me out of there to avoid more people coming up to me. Thankfully I pulled out of the car port pretty easily, but then I almost stalled it around the corner coming to a stop to let all these roaming people by. Man it was the worst circumstances! But thankfully I didn't stall and got out of the lot safe and sound.

Don't worry, I stalled it A LOT later on. I went around with my dad on all these great twisty turny country roads. I didn't even speed but really used that torque to blast from 20 to 60. CRAZY. I definitely didn't do WOT and still was thrown into my seat every time.

I really suck at driving the manual into first, that's for sure. Too bad I live in northern Virginia - all stop and go, no fun roads to be found. I typically leave the city to drive since I take public transport to work. Anyway, amazing car that just looks so so so mean and like a batmobile!

LOVE IT

You'll be smoothly rowing the gears in no time. My last manual before Ruby was 20 years ago, so I was pretty rusty. After enough seat time, muscle memory is established and you're shifting smoothly w/out really having to concentrate on it.

Enjoy the process.

Why is it that young people are always scared of looking foolish in front of "old timers"? Every one of those "real country folk" were envious of your new Stang and wished they would have had such a "SWEET" ride when they were your age. Trust me on this...years from now, you will remember taking that wonderful car for those first rides with YOUR DAD! He will remember also. Such a good memory you both will share...KUDOS to you...enjoy your Mustang!

I always feel like some of the rural VA people where I'm from can be pretty judgmental, like if you're different they'll give you a look. But everyone was really nice and definitely gave me plenty of smiles. thanks for the kind words! I do love riding around getting tips from my dad (former park ranger, FBI defensive driving and mountain driving courses, etc).
